Apple’s iOS 5 already jailbroken

mobile

Everyone’s favorite muscle-bound nerd brought iOS fans great news on Tuesday: iOS 5 has already been jailbroken. The Dev Team’s “MuscleNerd” posted on Twitter that he has successfully jailbroken Apple’s iOS 5 software using Limera1n. Right now his jailbreak is tethered, meaning the device must be connected to a computer each time it is booted, but this version of the jailbreak will never reach consumers so it doesn’t really matter. MuscleNerd says the exploit used to jailbreak the iOS 5 beta will still work on the final release version, so iOS users can sit pretty knowing the latest version of the operating system will likely be jailbroken immediately following its release this fall.

Register in the developer program or find a site that has a link to an upload, and have a developer register your UDID.

Go to the pirate bay search for iOS 5 download the file go to a website and pay approximate 8 dollars to have them set your UDID up as a developer and install. Got it on my VZW iPhone

Either pay $99 to become an iOS developer, or wait till fall like everyone else.

I signed up as a dev, but that’s because I’ll actually use it to make programs, not just get early release software.

have an open dev slots you’d be willing to share?

Everyone knows that the name “MuscleNerd” is an oxymoron.  Now if it was “TableMuscleNerd” it would be a different story.

      I’m a nerd with muscle.

Yes, so am I.  I was being (trying to be) funny

        I LOL’d.

This seems to be the norm. Apple releases the beta without closing the holes used to jailbreak the previous release and then on release they close it up. Closing it in the beta only gives more time to find a new exploit.

Not to say I’m against jailbreaking or anything (as some would assume from this comment), just that it’s no surprise it’s ‘already jailbroken’ and it’s unlikely this exploit will work in the final release.

I agree with you in general. However, this jb is based on a bootrom exploit, so it appears doubtful that Apple can close the loophole (of course iPad 2 owners are SOL)

This isn’t even a challenge any more, is it?

Good news for Norm and goofan.

  • serpentor

I’m not surprised Apple made it so easy. How else will they steal ideas for the next version of iOS w/o the jb community?

I think it’s pretty safe to say that Apple more or less supports jailbreaking at this point… iOS 5 is basically built around tweaks developed by the jailbreak community – and Apple should be more than happy to keep the gates open. As evidenced by the lack of working software unlocks since the original 01.59 BB hack, it’s also safe to say that they’re cracking down on the unlocking element only.

Apple must have realized that jailbreak devs are a prime source of free “inspiration” for iOS features.

So true.  It’s been what I’ve been saying to my friends/clients all along…all their new revolutionary features are always JB apps first!
