Over 200 million iOS devices sold, 25 million iPads

Breaking

Apple just confirmed during WWDC 2011 that it has sold 200 million iOS devices to date, including 25 million iPads. The iTunes store has also sold 15 billion songs and Apple has paid out over $2.5 billion to App Store developers. In addition, users have downloaded a total of 14 billion applications from the iTunes App Store — including 90,000 iPad apps — and 130 million downloads from the iBookstore.

Well considering the cody of apps and books you have to figure at a minimum a dollar? So 14.3 billion paid out 2.5… Still not any better

Apple takes a 30% cut.  Which means the revenue on what’s been paid out is about $3.5B USD. Of course, I am not privy as to the cycle that Apple pays out revenue.

        But they pointed out 2.5…

If Apple paid out $2.5B, that would mean it’s that figure is 70% of the total revenue generated by sales of apps. Which means the total revenue is about $3.5B. Apple kept close to $1B.

My other point was that I don’t know Apple’s cycle of paying out money to devs, so we don’t know if the $2.5B matches up to the 14B apps downloaded. If Apple doesn’t pay immediately, the $2.5B could correspond to a smaller amount of apps downloaded.

I understand the percentages. My point is their isn’t any way they have generated less than a dollar an app

Sure there is. There are LOTS of free apps, and the majority of paid apps are around $0.99.

And my point point was that Apple takes a FIXED cut, which means that maximum total revenue generated is around $3.5B USD, of which $2.5B (70%) was paid to developers.

        Case closed.

14B >>>>>>>>>> 130M. So a higher ASP wouldn’t significantly affect the larger pool.

Also, it says $2.5B paid out to *App Developers*, which does not necessarily (and likely does not) include publishers of iBooks. iBooks are not sold through the App Store, nor are they App Developers.

Again, the point is that Apple takes a FIXED percentage of app revenues (30%), so you can extrapolate the total revenues generated by the App Store based on the 70% paid out.

You seem to be implying Apple is being disingenuous and keeping more than 30%.

Um, the way this is written seems to indicate that only 90,000 iPad apps have been downloaded. Whoops.

It should read in a way the indicates that there’s 90,000 apps available for the iPad, not the amount downloaded.
