Sony Pictures breach confirmed to be authentic; Sony launches investigation

Security

A small group of hackers calling themselves LulzSec on Thursday claimed to have breached a Sony website and gained access to personal information belonging to over 1 million Sony customers. The group posted a statement claiming it did not have the resources to download the massive database tied to SonyPictures.com, but it provided samples of the data accessed in order to prove the breach was real. The Associated Press contacted several of the purported victims using phone numbers posted by LulzSec, and it was able to confirm with multiple victims that the data, which included account passwords, was authentic and accurate. Sony has not yet confirmed the breach, though a company spokesperson did say Sony is currently investigating the claims. This new breach is the latest in a string of hacks on various Sony networks that have compromised personal data belonging to over 100 million Sony customers.

I think sony’s network password is “bologna1″. They needed to add the “1″ becasue of more security. :)

I actually had to contain a laugh when I saw the “sonyhackathon” tag. Even more when I saw just how many articles are tagged with it. Ha.

Seriously, Sony. Um….stop getting hacked, kay?

at this point…i would go into my Sony account (if i had one) and change my password to “askdjfsj@#$#$Rshfieurhhh233ASDFWE##”, log off for a couple of months, and worry about changing it later. I know that doesn’t matter if things are posted as plain text, but to that point….put in fake address and credit card info.

Why would you make a harder password? It’s not like it’s any harder to copy-paste…

Man, it never seems to stop. I’m glad I didn’t have any of the services where accounts are getting hacked, but feel bad for those who do. Maybe we trust companies with too much info online.

Sony is having their asses handed to them.  Complete and total embarrassment.  They need to hire several high profile security firms, and have them do a once over on ALL their information technology assets, not just PSN.

The hackers saw their rootkit and raised them a network breach.

Dear Sony, Please just say you are sorry, stop suing Geohotz, and allow people to put Linux on the PS3 again so the hackers can be happy and everyone can go back to being bestest friends again. Kthanksbye.
