Android 3.1 on Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 not delayed

mobile

There were rumors floating around earlier today that Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 and 10.1 tablets in Europe running Google’s Android 3.1 Honeycomb OS were delayed until August, but Google has confirmed to us that that isn’t true. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 will launch next week with Android 3.1 and the Motorola XOOM has already received the Android 3.1 update. Verizon Wireless is also close to launching the Galaxy Tab 10.1 with LTE which is set for a “summer” launch running, you guessed it, Android 3.1.

We already know it’ll launch with 3.1, but that’s in the U.S. There is no Tab release announced anywhere else yet, so I’ll believe it’s not delayed when I see a PR from Samsung.

Launching in one city and then eight days later in the rest of the country sounds delayed to me.

Look at it and tell me that you wouldnt be pi… if you’d be a designer or developer at Apple about the fact that the koreans are allowed to bring their Galacopy’s to the US market. And even charging the same price without investing in creativity and new technology. Copying undermines innovation and my punishment for samsuck is a consequent ban of their products until they invest their own braincells and money again.
Good thing is, that a lot of people see it like that and eventually Samsuck will feel the pinch!

How do you know a lot of people see it like that? Please don’t tell me from what you here in the tech blogs because us techies make up a very small fraction of the general public. I don’t care if it looks similar to an iPad, won’t stop me from getting it.

moo53, you’re right, many techies won’t care to whom their money goes – the inventor or the copycat – unless they themselves engineered or developed some innovate things on their own and can pretty well comprehend how lousy it feels to see someone else copying it, selling it to your neighbours and stands as proud as if it was his own fruit.
The opposing people i’m talking about (in my former comment) are not the typical techies – they are rather creative and artist folks that have a very high sensitivity towards “original” and “reproduction”.
Don’t get me wrong – the competition between Google and Apple helps to drive innovation! But Samsung very obviously copies the whole image and design – and that’s really cheap, uninnovative and annoying. So consequently I won’t help them being succesful with this ploy.

So, apple owns the copyright to the rectangle.. oops, hang on.. the iRectangle shape now?

It’s a tablet computer.. do you expect it to look like a watermelon or something to be ‘innovative’?

I agree with J Hamburg.  The hardware looks exactly the same as an iPad.  You’ll have to hold it and look carefully to see the single button is missing.   On the plus side for Apple, anybody walking past you when your using this will assume you have an iPad, which will push the appeal and word of mouth drive of the iPad ever further.

I aggree with J Hamburg.  It looks exactly like an iPad.

If you have this, passer by’s will assume you have an iPad which will push its appeal and word of mouth factor even higher. :)

On the other hand.  Apple will be pissed off at the obvious cloning of its image (talking hardware here not software).

Well, Murtazin did not say that it’s being delayed in the US. He only wrote about Europe.

“Motorola XOOM has already received the Android 3.1 update”
Only US version of Xoom has received the update, European version is still running 3.0 and no one knows when it gets the update.

I’m still waiting to hear confirmation that the 8.9 is launching at the same time as the 10.1 All the articles and bestbuy mention 10.1 exclusively.

Dear Jonathan S. Geller can you confirm for sure that Samsungs statement is definitely related to the recent rumors about the delayed tabs in Europe?

And you mentioned the launch of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 next week – are you writing about Europe or the US?
