Verizon Wireless on Thursday announced that it will carry a 4G LTE version of Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 Android Honeycomb tablet. The device — currently the thinnest tablet on the market — will be available in two capacities, 16GB and 32GB, and will launch in two color schemes: “metallica gray” and “glossy white.” Save for its 4G LTE radio and updated operating system, the tablet is nearly identical to the special edition that we reviewed earlier this month: it offers a 1GHz dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor, a 1280 x 800 resolution display, a 2-megapixel front-facing camera for video chats, and a 3-megapixel rear camera. Pre-orders begin on June 8th, and you can pick up the 16GB version for $529.99 or the 32GB model for $629.99 with a new two-year contract. Verizon Wireless also said that it will offer a range of accessories for the Galaxy Tab 10.1, including a full keyboard. Hit the jump for the full press release.

I’m on this one too!!. Finally a 4G LTE tablet running the best OS, and on the best carrier. My 3G Motorola XOOM 4G LTE has proven to be a failure, but thankfully like handsets, DROID is pushing out tablets just as quick!

Did you at least perform a proper burial, Norm?

  • Anonymous

ok so this news would disprove the rumors that LTE wasn’t working with tegra 2 chips, now when can XOOM owners send their units in to get their LTE chip?

“will be available in two capacities, 32GB and 64GB”… “Pre-orders begin on June 8th, and you can pick up the 16GB version for
    $529.99 or the 32GB model for $629.99 with a new two-year contract.”

Nice copy and paste fail BGR…

I was wondering where the 32/64GB came from… and of course I noticed someone else saw it too.

  • 1eyebandit

So wth happens to us a$$holes who are waiting for LTE on the Xoom?

    • Booboolala2000

Heard. Verizon’s shitty 3g is the only bad thing about my Xoom. LTE will be great. There had better be an announcement soon about when we can send them in.

  • worldbfree4me

Early adopters always get bent over with no Vaseline (Zoom owners)!

    • Anonymous

No, that would be Macboy and Bringit bent over without their “Jelly” juice.

microSD card slot w/ this 4G version? If so, curse you Verizon/Samsung for you have successfully wooed me away from the WiFi only version!DANG IT!!

$529.99 *with* a 2-year contract? Holy hell these things are expensive!

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_JNKVTT7PJMXPYP2GVCIERBQQCU Andrew

That’s because of the service.  A Wifi-only version should be close to that price with no contract.  I’ll never buy a subsidized tablet.

  • http://twitter.com/mfg68 MFG

    YES YES YES.

  • Anonymous

Hope that thing has a big battery. LTE is not merciful to batteries.

  • Scott

I’ll take a wifi version over LTE. God knows when LTE will be available around here.

    • Anonymous

Unless it can also make phone calls, do not want LTE.

  • http://twitter.com/mfg68 MFG

    Very excited to get this.

  • Anonymous

Wow that looks like its gonna be good dude.

Sorry, I just cannot sign a 2 year contract for a tablet.  And hell if I’m paying the overly inflated unsubbed priced.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_JNKVTT7PJMXPYP2GVCIERBQQCU Andrew

      Wifi only, $500 the most.

  • Steel

In response to said announcement, the tech world utters a confused “ummm…..”

  • Steel

Seriously though, shouldn’t we all just be grateful that we do not live on the bizarro island that tablet manufacturers apparently do where 16 gb costs an extra $100?

  • Anonymous

Amazingly expensive for requiring a two-year contract.  Only $100 cheaper than an iPad2 up-front, yet requiring a contract that costs over $700 over its life?  #fail

You pay for the privilege of using the “network”.  No thanks, I take my no commitment iPad any day of the week.

    • http://www.vgchartz.com SuperChunk

…. its LTE vs 3G, as well we other superior capabilities.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_QTZYR77PTNHZ4ET6P6DNQQS7XA JeremyG

Will there be the option to go month-to-month like the Verizon iPad?

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Emmanuel-Lopez/1369346817 Emmanuel Lopez

I actually called 11 different Verizon stores and none of them knew what I was talking about, and if they did they had no idea that there was a pre-order going on. I wonder if this only applies to the Verizon stores in NY as the first models were released in the best-buy stores over there.
