Cell phones are ‘possibly carcinogenic,’ WHO report says

mobile

According to a new report from the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer, “radio frequency electromagnetic fields” are “possibly carcinogenic to humans based on an increased risk for glioma, a malignant type of brain cancer associated with wireless phone use.” The agency met with with 31 scientists from 14 countries from May 24th through May 31st, 2011 to assess the potential carcinogenic hazards of cell phone usage. The report said that the results were “evaluated as being limited among users of wireless telephones for glioma and acoustic neuroma,” and that it was not relevant to finding conclusions for whether or not cell phones can cause other types of cancers. “Given the potential consequences for public health of this classification and findings, it is important that additional research be conducted into the long-term, heavy use of mobile phones,” IARC Director Chrisopher Wild said. “Pending the availability of such information, it is important to take pragmatic measures to reduce exposure such as hands-free devices or texting.” The full report will be published on July 1 in The Lancet Oncology.

I’m sure it’s just the iPhone that is bad for you. Droids, for example, are too free and open to cause you harm.

Of course they are. Its a known fact that radiation causes cancer and its a known fact that cell phones emit electromagnetic. Radiation. Duh

      One word: non-ionizing.

Why does Joe Jackson’s song “Everything Give You Cancer” suddenly come to mind.  Another bastardization of by a UN agency.  Surprise, surprise.

Just about anything MIGHT cause cancer.  We all aren’t going to live to 100, so might as well enjoy life!

Except if you get cancer. (Not you, personally.)

This is the same group that labels coffee, working nights, car exhaust, and lot more as “Possible carcinogens”

I probably use 10 mins a month talking and 4gb web surfing… While web surfing he phone is away from my head. I think ill be fine. :)

  • TuhTuhTourrr!!!

Luckily for all us, most trolls are immune to cancer.

From the article; “The panel, which included 31 scientists from 14 countries, did not quantify the possible risk; nor did it estimate how much cellphone use might be safe or risky, make any recommendations about whether cellphones should be regulated”.

If you don’t quantify the risk, then it is just speculation.  The risk could be zero, or it could be 100% or anything in between.  This “study”, didn’t study anything.  It gathers no new data.  Cell phones have been used fairly heavily in the past twenty years, and very heavily in the past 10 and this is the best they can do?

So correct me if Im wrong. So if you use hands free or do texting you will get less radiation ? Oh I always thought cell signals are like the waves where just by walking on the street you are expose to radiations I didnt know if you have your phone away from your HEAD if will give you less radiation..
So my final question is.. Those people who works on roof they have serious high risk of cancer ? since they are right near the antenna ? oh… maybe not because they dont have their head right next to them. Just like you dont put your head next to microwave or in microwave….

Dear Sweetvines. Power intensity of radio waves is inversely proportional to the square of the distance from the source. In other words, doubling the distance from a transmission source reduces the power to one fourth the value. So, for example when you are holding your cell phone to your  ear, the transmission source is, say, about an inch from your brain. Move the cell phone a foot away and the power is reduced to 1/(12 inches)squared = 1/144 or .00694 of the power intensity level at one inch.  As you can see, distance makes a HUGE difference.

That explains why bees don’t like cell phone transmissions – they already knew!
