Apple could launch 8-megapixel iPhone sans SIM card in August

mobile

According to Macotakara, Apple is scheduled to launch its new iPhone in late July or August — not September as many other reports have claimed. Apple’s new device will offer a Cortex-A9 processor as well as an 8-megapixel camera. It may also have a SIM-free design and support for both GSM and CDMA networks, allowing it to run on Verizon and AT&T in the U.S. and on global networks abroad. The rumor also suggests that Apple will maintain the iPhone 4 form factor, which doesn’t match earlier a number of earlier reports that suggest the next generation iPhone will have a 4-inch screen, but it fits perfectly in line with the unreleased iPhone we posted pictures of back in April. Similarly, the rumor says Apple may veer further from its standard course and launch a new iPhone, dubbed “iPhone 6″ in the spring of next year.

If this is true then FAIL!!

I love the iPhone and have had every one. However if this is true then I’m not upgrading. No sim equals kiss my ass steve jobs.

Anyone else feel like it’s entirely reasonable to suspect Apple of leaking plenty of false rumors to keep the media confused on this one? I don’t think I’ve ever heard quite so many conflicting reports of what the next iPhone is going to be or when it’s going to be released in one season.

And hey, after last year’s show got stolen, I couldn’t really blame them if they did.

I’m with you on this one. I’ve been thinking the same thing. I sure hope that the next iPhone has a bigger screen. And I also wish that it will have LTE. And if I have to go to Verizon to get it, then fine.

Eh it’s not their style to do false dissemination for the sole purpose of confusion. One possibility is that no body expects a new iPhone revision this week so not enough journalists seem to register. This may drum up some interest. Longshot because the Icloud announcement is already the draw.

I think its just rampant speculation.

On what grounds do you say it’s “not their style”? Your guess is as good as mine as to where these rumors come from, however there’s absolutely no way to prove that they did not come from Apple. Given that it’s not exactly an uncommon practice for companies to manipulate the media for their own intentions, not to mention Apple’s culture of secrecy, it’s entirely reasonable to think not only that it’s Apple’s “style” to leak a few false rumors to keep the gadget bloggers off their tail, but that such practice is routine.

All of these stories (and there are quite a lot of them) about various products and services have to come from somewhere. Labeling it “rampant speculation” doesn’t a source make. Maybe it’s a misunderstanding, someone talking to someone important who says “well, I’ve heard they’re thinking about…” that turns into “GUESS WHAT THEY’RE DOING”, but even if you could trace it back to such a conversation (more often than not it’s actually an intentional leak, whether the person leaking knows the truth or not), there’s no proving that this person didn’t say such things on purpose to make headlines.

It’s pretty easy to make headlines (and make false headlines) when you’re a big company. It’s one step short of foolhardy to believe that major companies don’t manipulate this to their own ends. Especially because it’s “not their style”. Especially when their “style” so frequently involves bending the truth. Like when Steve Jobs personally stood on stage and announced that the iPad 2 was the first dual-core tablet to ship “in volume”. Which is at best a gaffe and at worst an outright lie as the Xoom had already shipped by this point. It is not the first time Apple has gone official with false or incredibly misleading statements. It’s silly to think it’s “not their style” to do so unofficially.

    • MicroNix

Norm, what happened?  These short responses with nothing new is just not you.  Its like you’ve given up being a fake troll or something…

See, when there is no news, they rehash old info and slap a new picture on it. Oh and that giant watermark… haha.

They “could” launch a iPhone 55. Could really ain’t worth reporting.

Another iPhone rumor post on BGR while plenty of legitimate tech news goes unreported. What a shocker.

      What other news?

  • Cer

Do people just recycle the same iOS rumors over and over again? So the next next iPhone is going to come earlier than the typical yearly cycle. Hmm, wasn’t that the same rumor for the iPad3? Magical!

  • http://www.bignerdblog.com BigNerd

So if July/August… that means we should hear something about it at WWDC next week… which of course everyone has been reporting that we won’t.

Someone needs to hit the beer gardens in Cupertino to get the real scoop… or we can wait for the next Vietnamese website update.

rumor, rumor, rumor, rumor, rumor, rumor.

I need a TMO 3G one like the picture

    • Scott

Well, January 2012 you’ll be able to get one. It’ll be called “AT&T iPhone 4S”.

  • drew dogg

They kept the og model the same for 3yrs they just changed it last yr… What makes people think they’ll change it up? Think of apple like a Chevy Truck, they keep the model going a couple of years to keep the value up.

SIM-free? Fantastic. Can’t wait to pay an arm and a leg when I use my iPhone abroad.

  • Ronlap

If there is no SIM, it will be very hard to pick up a local SIM when traveling. An unlocked phone doesn’t have any meaning in this scenario, does it?

I have had every single iphone created (I buy then without contracts); and I can say that Iphone 4 is the best design so far. I hope they think long and hard before any dramatic design changes. I love the two glasses and stainless steel feel in my hands. I wished they had offered the Ipad like this. Apple it’s the software now you need to focus on. It’s okay to admit that android has to some better features!

…apple sucks…and everyone that owns an apple product or promotes them are mindless sheep….the marketing of apple is unmatched in that they can convince a person to spend 3x the amount of money for a product that is outdated or matched by similar products…so have to give them credit for that….but the funniest thing is that people actually try to justify their absurd spending habits with “it just works”…ha god bless you…you keep giving steve jobs the handjob he has earned with his “superior” products and “innovative” design concepts….the one and only apple product i will ever buy is the humancentipad with steve jobs as the middle link…”it emails and craps in steve’s mouth?!?!?! NO WAY?!!?
