‘The Heist’ iPhone app hands-on

Gaming

If you’re a Mac user, there’s a decent chance you’ve heard of Macheist, a deal site that bundles different Mac applications together for a ridiculously low price. While The Heist isn’t a bundled software deal, it’s an insanely addictive puzzle game for the iPhone based on a theme of trying to crack into a safe — hence the title. There are four different puzzle types and over 60 levels, each one with distinct themes and objectives. And, in addition, there’s a promised prize to any user that completes every level in the game. Not a bad hook, right? The game is built by developer TapTapTap, makers of the Camera+ iPhone app, and it’s available now for $0.99 in the App Store — and it’s currently sitting pretty as the No. 1 paid app.

How much were you paid for this “review”… it would be nice if BGR started declaring which articles are paid PR pieces, and what are actual reviews or news that were done on your own accord/investigation.

You’re an arrogant prick aren’t you?

      • http://www.bgr.com Jonathan Geller

I had to laugh at that comment since it was so absurd. That’s being arrogant? Unlike other sites, we don’t accept payment for anything besides banner advertising. The accusation that we’d get paid for something and post it (on top of not disclosing it) is funny to me.

Well, I guess for all of us that don’t know you personally, a 3 letter response to, what to me seems like a reasonable question/comment seems a bit like a “kiss my a$$” response.  If you say that you don’t get paid for reviews etc… I accept that and appreciate your more detailed response below.  Just as a suggestion, you may want to have a permanent statement on your website that outlines your policies on receiving payment (or not) for reviews/comments etc… You could direct people to that when people make future queries.

It is perfectly normal to be an arrogant prick. When is one not?

Please Geller, a about a year or two ago I remember seeing a small PR icon beside a few posts a day, than icon has since disappeared, and I highly doubt BGR and your parent company would refuse the cash from PR pieces.

Why do Androidanus people assume all Apple related posts are paid for, and the endless Android reviews are not?  Why do Androidanus people post in Apple related posts more than Apple users, yet the same Androidanus people claim to not care about Apple?  Me thinks the Androidanus people protest too much – which means they love Apple products and Apple posts.

      ya heard?

Not a very good app.. I downloaded it with Installous so I got it for free and I don’t play it. Thank goodness I didn’t pay for it!

    • http://www.droiddoes.com/ Norm

what is installous?  It sounds closed off and terrible.  DROID FTW!

It’s like BlapkMarket on Android… Except on Android you don’t even need to be rooted…

Also, guys, don’t yell at me for posting this. I do not support pirates, they stole one of my apps. :(

        I support freedom and choice

I’m supposed to pay 99 cents for an app that let’s me buy more apps?  Ehhhhh…..

The game they give you is really boring, but I love the concept of playing a game to earn something.

to be fair, there’s nothing in the ‘hands on’ which indicates any level of hands on, excepting of course ‘insanely addictive’

  • Meh

Shouldn’t this review be on an apple blog ?

    • Bringit

      why?

      • Meh

Reviewing a certain app from one certain manufacturer on a general tech blog ?

      • Bringit

Probably the most ridiculous post ever in BGR.  And that is saying a lot.  So BGR should only post things that cover all phones?  If an Android phone comes out, don’t review it because it’s only one certain manufacturer?

It’s a tech blog coving tech.  This is a Heist on iPhone is tech related.
