Rolls-Royce iOS app lets you design your car from home

mobile

One of the most impressive uses for a device like an iPhone or iPad is that it can give potential customers access and capabilities that were previously impossible. In the case of the Rolls-Royce iOS app for iOS, car lovers can now build their own Rolls-Royce Phantom, Ghost, or any other vehicle in the lineup right from their home; And they can do so in a way that we haven’t seen before in an iOS app. For starters, the 3D modeling and views are beautiful — so good that if you connect your iPad to your TV over HDMI, it still looks smooth and crisp — and besides having the ability to build your car from the ground up, you can even pick a custom paint job by taking or using a photo of something on your device and matching the paint swatch to any color in that photograph. While the percentage of iOS users that can afford a Rolls-Royce is another story, it’s a smart move from a company that will do whatever the customer wants, and it lets potential customers explore Rolls-Royce in any setting they choose.

This definitely paves the way for other (and hopefully more affordable) manufacturers to have you build the car you want on your device and put in the order at the dealer by showing them your phone.  Hopefully it gets widely adopted soon

i think this idea could be very nice for a buyer,,, but i would add a few things,,,, one,, locate a dealer closes to you that has the model you picked out, with amenities etc,,, maybe list a couple with price points and special pricing….so you can design a car,, find it,,, get the best price,,,

Is it just me or does the iPhone look very tiny in this guy’s hand?

It’s a good way to keep the brand relevant, but I hardly believe anyone would download this and go “Hm, these Rolls-Royce cars are pretty neat. I think I’ll purchase one.”

They’re the kind of cars you either set out to buy or don’t buy at all.

well, it sure is a good thing they made this app for iOS because nobody would ever be able to do this on their computer “from home”.

    /sarcasm

Because anyone is going to be doing it from any place but the dealership in all honesty.

There are too many damn options on those cars, plus they’ll do just about anything custom you could want.

Most car manufacturers have a build and price feature on their websites, but even their mobile sites leave a bit to be desired. I really wish Ford would make an app like this.

A Goofan (aka Apple Hater) would never use this application or consider buying a Rolls Royce, not because we can’t afford one, but because we have a much more refined sense of style than a Rolls or Apple product fan!

      You’re still an idiot.

and why isn’t it a web app that works in any browser on any phone or pc regardless of os?
    because it’s stupid

You’d think they would have a standard they could use. It be created in the HTML language, and they could call it… hrrrrmrmmmm… lemme come up with a good one… HTML5? Yeah, that should do it.

I’m not sure what the issue is with developers not using it like they should. They could still have an “app” that you download and it’s essentially a shortcut.

BRB, heading to the patent office. LOL

“While the percentage of iOS users that can afford a Rolls-Royce is another story,”

Wait, iPhone owners will overpay for a cell phone, but not for a car?  Seems a bit hypocritical, but then again, that’s par for the course.

Judging by the maturity of BGR comments, I’m pretty sure anyone who can afford a Rolls has never visited this site.

What the hell is this? a feel good apps for those who can’t afford to buy the car? It’s like wearing a Porsche t-shirt cause the car is expensive to buy.

Exactly what the old fogey type who would purchase this hearse needs.  Some type of application on a tiny screen on a new-fangled phone thingy.
Maybe the butler or the maid can show them how to access the iApp Store.
