NumberGuru for iPhone, Android provides free unlimited reverse phone number look-ups

mobile

BeenVerified, the company behind the Antoine Dodson-endorsed Sex Offender Tracker app, is back with another offering that looks to disrupt the reverse directory space. The firm’s latest app, NumberGuru, provides users with free unlimited reverse phone number look-ups. The app is also tied to a social service where users can post comments about numbers they look up with NumberGuru, helping to identify phone spammers for future searchers. Available immediately for the iPhone, Android smartphones and on the Web, the app and service are completely free, and BeenVerified told us that the company plans to keep it that way. BeenVerified also told BGR that since the app was updated last week, NumberGuru is averaging about 10 look-ups per second, or 864,000 look-ups each day. Hit the break for links to install the free app on your iPhone or your Android smartphone.

It’s probably an unfortunate side effect to use the app.  If it’s supposed to keep spam calls from getting to you it needs to make sure that your contacts are not filtered out.  I would rather take the spam calls than give my contact list out especially after syncing with LinkedIn and Facebook.

Just an FYI this application appears to be crowd sourcing your contact information.  It reads your contact list to gain information about who belongs to each number.  The privacy concerns here are staggering.  Considering that if I’ve given you my phone number in trust you could be sharing it with the entire world I’d advise against people downloading this app.

I paid $32.67 for a XBOX 360 and my mom got a 17 inch Toshiba laptop for $94.83 being delivered to our house tomorrow by FedEX. I will never again pay expensive retail prices at stores. I even sold a 46 inch HDTV to my boss for $650 and it only cost me $52.78 to get. Here is the website we using to get all this stuff, MadCent. com

Someone you know must have downloaded the app and it downloaded their contacts and viola you are now not so unlisted anymore. Genius on their parts but it absolutely sucks for us people who seek and respect privacy.

    • Numberguru Sucks

They also show my 15 year old son’s cell phone, showing his name. He is a Minor, how can they do this?
      I’m pissed.
