Verizon releases Xperia PLAY, DROID X2, Revolution and Trophy

mobile

Today is a big day for current and potential Verizon Wireless subscribers — the nation’s top carrier is tossing new smartphones around willy nilly and launching not one, two or three, but four brand new drool-worthy devices. First up is Sony Ericsson’s highly anticipated gaming Goliath, the Xperia PLAY. The PLAY features a 4-inch WVGA display, Google’s Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS, a slide-out dedicated gaming controller and a $199.99 price tagt. The LG Revolution is also clear for takeoff today, and it features a 4.3-inch touchscreen, Android 2.2 Froyo, Samsung’s TouchWiz UI and last but certainly not least, a blazing fast 4G LTE radio. At $249.99 it’s the priciest phone Verizon is launching today, but LTE is more than worth the $50 premium as long as you’re happy carrying an extra battery or five. Motorola’s DROID X2 is launching today as well, and it sports a dual-core Tegra 2 processor, Android 2.3 Gingerbread, a 4.3-inch display with qHD resolution and a surprisingly slim body, all for $199.99. Finally, Verizon’s HTC Trophy is the carrier’s first Windows Phone, featuring a 3.8-inch WVGA display, a 5-megapixel camera with 720p video capture support, 16GB of internal storage and global roaming capabilities. It’s definitely a good value at $149.99 but with next-generation Windows Phones set to launch alongside Mango, a two-year contract is a tough sell right now.

You’re a rather “asshole” kind of troll, but I’m beginning to like you and your flaws.

      • Poopookaka

All three of them are annoying as sh*t but funny in a dentist kinda way.  probably all the same person anyways.

  • Captainobvious

The revolution doesnt have touchwiz, that would make no sense. It’s samsung’s custom ui

Makes perfect sense, TouchWiz is crap; it looks like something put together by a “Special Needs” kindergarten class.

      • http://www.droiddoes.com/ Norm

It looks like iOS you mean?

    • ApplesNAndroids

Hey captain obvious! Wrong! It’s not a Samsung UI seeing it’s an LG phone

lmao. I just noticed that in the write up. Funny thing is that it looks exactly like Touch Wiz I can see how that mistake was easy to make.

If you’re trolling, very subtly done. If you’re not, you’re denser than a neutron star.

      Either way, entertaining.

Thank you for noticing that to…so i dont have to create an entire post on why they need to proof read their articles before they post them for the world to to see :-/ com’on wheres the professionalism?

  • ApplesNAndroids

Seems youve made a mistake. LG Revolution does not run Samsung Touch wiz or any of the sort. It’s an LG skin.. But, what do I know

Well this is interesting news. Did they also mention when they were going to release some good phones too? My aging D1 is in need of a refresh, but I would much rather continue using that over any of these new handsets. Bionic? SGSll? No? Oh well, continue to wait I shall.

Uhmmmm, I think somebody is still a little sleepy…

      I feel as if it’s a joke . . . it looks a lot like Samsungs UI

yeah, and what about the droid x2?  all their release materials say it’s loaded with froyo, with a promised update to gingerbread (when? next year?).  but here, BGR states it’s being released with gingerbread.  wonder what BGR is getting from verizon for serving up their crap on a silver platter.  verizon must be making a bundle selling these supposedly “new” products loaded up with old features.  i’m on verizon now, but churning to sprint as soon as the evo3d comes out.  so what if i have to give up my new every two $50 credit?  $50 off crap is no deal in my book. touchwiz?  motoblur? vomit!  they’re the biggest, so why don’t they have the cutting edge phones?  pure profit selling old technology at a premium price is the only answer i can come up with. and BGR just feeds right into it.

woody, leave verizon for a crappy no existent 4g network…you troll…go ahead with 100 million customers anyway who cares if vzw loses one…you idiot

  • Gdavidnovak

Looks like the HTC Trophy allotment at VZW is gone. Now listed as “Temporarily out of stock.” Either very popular or VZW stocked very few units for this advanced online sale.

Sold Out due to unanticipated high demand (meaning they sold both of them)

Droid X2 does not have Gingerbread. It has FroYo.

  • Mercado

This is bordering on National Enquirer type reporting…

Three android phones are released every month why is this news?

    • Steve Hillshire

Because it pisses the iTards off, that’s why.  Don’t you have a secret iTard society meeting to go to?  Seriously…

Yes I do as soon as I’m done giving your old lady a cleveland steamer I’ll be on my way.

      • Stinkyfinger

ha i think she steemed you and your old outdated apple phone…theres a crappp for that

  • BloodiedWraith

Wow the writing on BGR has become atrocious.  TouchWiz UI on an LG… really?  And the Droid X2 launches with 2.2, not 2.3. It appears that you didn’t even do research.  As always, you’re the last website to post the information and as always, you’ve got it all wrong. Not to mention the typos in the article, including “tagt”.
