Sony cyberattacks spill over to Sony Ericsson

Security

Sony continues to be targeted in a series of cyberattacks that have resulted in the theft of personal information belonging to over 100 million Sony customers. Following breaches of the company’s PlayStation Network, Sony Online Entertainment, So-net Entertainment and most recently, the Sony’s Greek website, hackers have breached a database associated with Sony Ericsson’s Canadian online shop. Personal data including names, email addresses and passwords belonging to more than 2,000 customers was compromised, but Sony said no credit card numbers were stolen. A Lebanese hacking group called Idahca claimed responsibility for the attack, and it said the information obtained has been leaked on Facebook and Twitter. It is unclear if this latest attack is tied in any way to previous attacks on Sony’s various digital properties.

Notice to Hackers: All of the rich executives and shareholders at Sony will still be rich no matter what you do. You are only hurting the poor employees and customers.

I guess you missed their reported $3.2 Billion in annual losses that is partially attributed to these attacks

I guess you didn’t read my comment.. Executive salaries aren’t gonna change and any rich guy with stock and half a brain is diversified.. The only people being directly hurt are middle and lower class..

If they make Sony BK so what? What’s left will get bought up and absorbed into another company with the same values and all of the rich people will continue living rich lives.. They will play the self-fulfilling prophecy game and use the effect to justify the cause.. Just like the war on drugs..

I guess you didn’t hear about this massive earthquake and tsunami that happened in Japan back in march which is the main reason for the $3.2 Billion loss.

Or bad market leadership that had nothing to do with the hacks except in management.

“Partially attributed” was included in my reply for a reason

yup! at the end of the day, they’re still getting paid.

It’s amazing that this all started because they decided to remove Linux support from the PS3

I wonder if any console will ever offer linux again after this galactic PR nightmare. This is one of those situations where everyone (except the hackers) loses IMO. Do they really think the corps are going to suddenly bend and open source all their boxes the next go round?

wait, you attacked Canada? Even Sony cant find us on a map. Noob hackers

  • ShakesHead

“Was harassing George Hotz and all the other users who paid for your product still worth the giant bulls eye it painted on your community?”, open question to Sony’s share holders….

I know you aren’t justifying these attacks??

      • ShakesHead

Not justifying but it seems one could have seen it coming

This is an inside job or someone at Sony fired the wrong IT guy.

While it’s preposterous that they’re still getting attacked like this, each attack seems to have do progressively less and less damage.

These hackers lost all my support when they started attacking the consumers – the very people they were ‘defending’. Granted it’s moved on from the original group to others getting involved but the fact remains. These hackers have shown their true colors and they’re not pretty (as if we didn’t already know this). If they’d actually step out of mommies basement I’d say go play in traffic but I’m not sure they would even know what a car is.

I’m sorry but when did Anonymous claim responsibility for any of these hacks? The only thing they said about them is “it’s not us”. Don’t hang this on them. The people responsible for the breaches at Sony are simply an organized group out for personal gain. End of story. Spare us your disappointment with your true colors speech

        says camguy1975 aka anonymous

It’s sometimes preferable to be Anonymous. Wouldn’t you agree Nathan?
