Ballmer: Windows Phone ‘Mango’ release to deliver more than 500 new features

mobile

Speaking at the Japanese Microsoft Developers Forum, Microsoft’s CEO confirmed that the next Windows Phone update, codenamed Mango, will add “over 500 new features” to the mobile operating system. The Redmond based company has an event scheduled for Tuesday, May 24th in New York City, during which it will unveil the new update (again) and discuss its features in greater detail. Earlier this month we heard rumors that the update will deliver Bing Audio, Bing Vision, turn-by-turn navigation in Bing Maps, a new native podcast player, speech recognition, and more. We’ll be reporting live on the update tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m. Eastern Time. Hit the jump for a quick video clip of Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer discussing Mango.

Microsoft is going to have to give these phones away to make any inroads into the market.

Don’t think that Microsoft is above bribing people to use their platform (see Bing Cashback).

Ballmer will do anything to win your love.

Can’t wait to get my hands on this tasty Mango for my Focus! Hopefully they’ll announce it being available before September. :)

Announce it they may, AT&T however will let you have it once version 2.0 hardware with it pre-installed is slowing in sales. I waited on the first update, I’m so hacking in Mango.

Yeah, I’m not waiting for AT&T either. As soon as there is a way to get it, I”m going for it.

I love Windows on my PC, but do people actually have Windows Phones?

I am actually the only one left in my family without one.  Waiting for the Fall wave of devices myself.

Yes, they are extremely satisfying to use, and to me, the best mobile OS design.  They took a risk doing it differently than everybody else, but Metro UI is a thing of beauty.

I like that Microsoft is serious about re-claiming the cell phone market.

     Feature count!  Awesome!

Seriously, who cares about this metric.

It doesn’t really reveal anything, he just indicates that there are over 500 new features.  It’s great to see Microsoft working its way back into the game.

I cannot wait for the new devices.  Bye bye Blackberry, hello Windows Phone!

I would be happy if Papaya included just 20 added features that currently exist on other mobile operating systems.
Ballmer can take the 480 balance and add it as hair follicles.

    Turn off Metro UI?

Verizon? Updates through other channels than the cell carrier? To-do list?

Can not download a simple ringtone… any cheap cellphone can perform that task…. YOU  have to use the crappy ringtones that come with the phone… Comeon Microsoft!
