Apple could bid for 15,000 square foot Grand Central store

Retail

In February we heard early reports that Apple was planning to construct an Apple Store inside Grand Central in the heart of New York City. A month later new reports suggested that the plan was scrapped. According to The Wall Street Journal, however, Apple is interested in two balconies that are located on the north and east sides of Grand Central Terminal — a total of 15,230 square feet. BGR has also independently confirmed that Apple has indeed been scoping out the space during the past few weeks. A restaurant currently occupies one of the areas up for rent, but it’s expected to close its doors on July 1st, which would presumably allow Apple to start construction later this summer. According to some experts speaking to The Wall Street Journal, the store could have the potential to be Apple’s most popular retail location to date. The MTA is expected to issue a request for proposals on Monday.

Millions and millions of square miles.  The whole world is an Android store.  I see people walking around using Android paraphernalia, people praising Sergei and Larry (sans Eric) and saying Google is by far the most amazing company with the most amazing products EVER!

If you’re going to make an attempt at humor, at least have it make sense.

I know.  Who in their right mind would build their stores in extremely high trafficked/valued areas.  Right?  You are a very bright Goofan (aka Apple Hater) and we are proud of you!  As far as Goofans (aka Apple Haters) are concerned we build our stores in run-down neighborhoods that no one wants to go to!

We don’t need stores… our Android phones sell themselves. Haven’t you seen the latest marketshare report?

Actually, we are better than that. We GIVE THEM away!  That’s genius.  We (Goofans aka Apple Haters) have gotten to the top by giving away Android goodness and it hasn’t cost our LORD GOOGLE a penny!  How baller is that fellow Goofan (aka Apple Hater!)???

Must be me but why are there going to be 4 apple stores less than a 25 min commute from one another??  SoHo and Upper/Midtown I can understand but the one on 9th ave and now this one just support the original poster’s comment.

Apple is becoming a victim of their own tricks.  By paying people to make all the stores look super busy, they have reached a safety limit and I am sure the fire marshall told them “stop paying people to visit your stores” or “build a new store”!  Simple.

Luckily GCT is on the register of historic places, so they will have to construct a subdued store.  I wouldn’t want some modern monstrosity messing up the aesthetic of the Warren and Wetmore designed Beaux-Arts masterpiece that is Grand Central Terminal.
