Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 Android Honeycomb tablet is now available for pre-order from J&R. The 16GB tablet is priced at $499.99 while the 32GB version will set you back an additional $100. Here’s a quick rundown of its specs: it offers a 10.1-inch display with a 1280 x 800 resolution, a 1GHz dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor, full 1080p HD playback, a 3-megapixel camera capable of recording 720-p video, a 2-megapixel forward-facing camera for video chats, and more. The Galaxy Tab 10.1 also happens to be the thinnest tablet on the market right now. If you want a deeper dive, be sure to check out our full review of the limited edition version.  J&R doesn’t specify exactly when the tablet will ship, although we’ve heard the Galaxy Tab 10.1 will be available on June 8th.

I wouldn’t buy anything from J&R, let alone a $600 tablet; can you say, “Going Out of Business Next”?

It would be easier to march right into the Samsung store at the Time Warner Center at Columbus Circle and buy directly from Samsung (as long as their is no TouchWiz) !!

How exactly are you going to purchase any product at the Samsung Experience?
I visit that place almost daily, and as far as I know nothing is for sale there.

These companies must not be making any money on these tablets if they cannot even get below what the cheapest Ipad costs. Not saying the Ipad is better or worse, but the average consumer is going to look at this and picked the same priced Ipad nearly every time.

which is why it’s completely insane when people write about Apple’s high margins. Sure they make a killing on the iPhone but for the iPad? Does anyone even remember how much it cost to have a smooth running 8 hour tablet running tablet XP? It was like 1500 dollars for the base models.

Now we have 700-900 dollar tablets running last years processors, compromising battery life screen and speed just to make a value proposition against the iPad.

similarly specced, 499 is pretty great pricing for a dual core tablet.

I actually really like the Asus Transform, I mean, it’s no iPad2 but it looks like a great netbook and a cheap way to get into Android programming.

I will wait for amazon’s tablet as they will price it more to get you into their app and media eco system rather make huge amounts of money of it.

Honeycomb is brutal.  Tried the Xoom and the the LG disaster.  Boy is it gross.  Sammy probably better, but HC is awful
