ASUS ramping up production of Eee Pad Transformer citing ‘excessive demand’

Tablets

Asustek Computer is promising to increase monthly production runs of its versatile Eee Pad Transformer tablet. Citing strong demand in the U.S., UK, Taiwan and China, the company will extend production totals from 8,000 units per month to 10,000 units per month. The company also has the lofty goal of manufacturing 300,000 Transformer tablets in the second quarter; with aspirations of shipping 2 million tablets in 2011. The Transformer, which connects to a dockable keyboard, retails for $399 and comes with 16GB of on-board storage.

If they increase to 10,000 a month…  how do they plan on selling 300,000 in a 3 months? Honest question.

The company also has “the lofty goal” of manufacturing 300,000 Transformer tablets in the second quarter…

Perhaps the emphasize being on “the lofty goal”, hence it does not mean what it appears to state as being factually accurate. Also interesting, is the fact that we are well into the second half of “the second quarter”, unless they operate on a different calendar system.

      Either way peculiar indeed.

      Thank You

They are probably on the July through June fiscal calendar, which makes the second quarter the holiday season.  Still they’ed have to ramp up production to meet the 2Million units in 2011 which would be calender year.

Its actually 10,000 units PER DAY.  Follow the link to source article.  Then the 300K units for Q2 makes more sense.  BGR and a few other sites all seem to be copy/paste from each other without reading the source articles…..

Here comes really snarky comments from perspectively.

BGR, you miss-read the article. It says: “According to the company`s executives, Asustek is ramping up output of the computing devices towards 10,000 systems PER DAY from current 7-8,000 systems.”

    It is not PER MONTH.

This introduction must have been the second longest tease, in recent tec-gagdet memory, well a good distant second to the white iPhone, latter being by far the record holder!

Hope it is worth the wait!

Excessive demand? Where? …and is it “excessive” or unexpected?

With no data option aside from Wifi I gave no interest but I guess competition is good. So are realistic numbers.

I have know idea how many were actually shipped to stores but I haven’t been able to pick one up in the Bay Area and I’ve tried about 20 stores who are suppose to be selling it. Plus all the major online retailers selling it have been oos.

Since you are in the market for this tablet that’s why you have no idea. Its not that Asus has sold millions like apple but this tablet is infact nowhere to be found at in the market (online or retail). Problem is that Asus marketing never predicted how well this was going to be received by the people so they manufactured a limited number of tablets at launch (in contrast to Motorola who put out millions of tablet thinking that people would go crazy after it). Asus has made a very good tablet and this keyboard dock is a radical difference among all other Honeycomb tablets.
Reason that I am saying all this is that I missed the opportunity to buy it on April 28th when it was launched and I haven’t been able to buy it yet. Its not that its not available. Problem is that retailers are receiving limited qty/s per day that are selling out in minutes (literally). Just to give you an idea just take a look at a online tracker site called now in stock dot net and you will know.

no, problem is that they can’t get the supply for the screens. they are making breakneck margins, hoping to make up some profit thru the keyboard dock.

But someone out there has first dibs on 10 inch LCD screens…

LMAO calling excessive demand to 10.000 units per month

Just came from best buy in clearance NY they have 19 in stock if anyone is interested. They also have plenty and I do mean plenty of xoom’s.

Could you please tell me your zipcode so that I could order a keyboard dock online? No scam serious request please.

      • Anonymous

They had no docks. And no playbooks.

      • Anonymous

        And I meant 9 not 19 sorry.

    • Anonymous

No offense but I find this to be unlikely.  Best Buy employees repeatedly confused the ASUS Transformer with the ACER Iconia.  Did you see 9 Transformer boxes or were you told that they had 9 in stock?

      • Anonymous

Nine in the shelf under the display of laptops. They had a couple of them acer tablets as well. A bunch of zoom’s and no i

        No iPads.

10,000 a month can not be right. If they can not build more you would think they would raise the price. The Acer Iconia is also sold out out BB.

our local best buy had the aconia, and actually had a decent display for the Xoom (about time) but the guy just stared at me when I said “Transformer” and asked me if I was talking about the movie. :(

Not that I blame him, if I worked in a store like that, I wouldn’t know a device unless we sold it either.

Went to the Best Buy on Miami beach after an online search told me they had a limited amount in stock.  After some searching of the SKU’s, and confusing the assitant, the manager came over and said it was in the back to be used as a demonstration model.  They only had one, and wouldn’t sell it.  Very frustrating.

     another fail.

i’ll take one of those over an ipad any day

Me too. I want to get rid of my ipad and get this.

Never seen it at Best Buy.  Tried both the Xoom and Acer Tablet already.

I was lucky to get one on the release and am typing on it now . This tablet is really amazing, love the fact that  i can type on it properly with the dock, but also that I can sit in a chair and read a book by using the screen only. I know some people say why dont you get a netbook, and you have to have this to see the use of having the tablet in portrait mode on your lap and then connecting it to the dock when you need to do some heavy typing. Overall you should wait for something like this , i cant see myself with just the tablet, ipad or others, it is NOT easy to type long emails on a tablet and thats a fact so this is the perfect combination IMO :)

Totally agree cmboud.  I have had mine for 3 weeks now.  My wife has had the iPad 1 for a while.  The first thing we did is compare to two.  The iPad is still great at what it does, but the Transformer is the best in class so far.  The Galaxy 10.1 does have microSD, the Xoom, LG, and Toshiba are all over priced, and the keyboard dock is the killer app (accessory) with this tablet.  The all have nearly the same specs and run the same OS.  The only real stand out is this dock and its very well done.  I got mine off now in stock dot net and it wasn’t easy.  You had to be quick.  And to all you guys who are saying that these things are in brick and mortar stores just sitting on shelves, eithering you are lying, or your stores are prehistoric in updating there inventories online therefore causing them to miss out on potential sales.  There is a demand for this tablet.  It may not be a iPad type of demand, but there is a serious demand and I think Asus and Google need to take notice.  There hasn’t really been a major Ad campaign for this tablet like there were for other tablets.  Asus and Google should pay more attention to their audience.  Free extra cloud storage, free remote desktop software, and an awesome office suite (better than Quick Office and Docs To Go) makes me a very satisfied customer.
