Sony begins restoring PSN services

Gaming

Sony has announced that it’s starting to bring its services back online after a major security breach leaked the credit card data and personal information of over a hundred million users. The first step for Sony’s PlayStation Network members is a firmware update that’s been issued for the PlayStation 3. After applying the patch, PS3 users will be prompted to change their PSN passwords. “Please note that these services will take a bit of time to be turned on and rolled out to the whole country,” the company said in a blog post Saturday. “The process has begun and some states are being turned on now, so please be patient as we reach your city and state.”

I’m still waiting for them to send me that password. From two days ago. So I guess this news is still relevant.

I did. Played Modern Warfare 2 last night for about an hour. Unlocked a new gun and moved up a rank….

After installing the update I played a full match before my PS3 turned off like it lost power.  The light flashed red.  One press to get it solid red, another to turn it on.  Second time it wouldn’t let me play a full game before it turned off.  I waited an hour or two and tried again — it let me play like 2 minutes of a game.  After that it wouldn’t turn on at all.  Anyone else having this problem after updating or has my PS3 just broken in the days before PSN came back?

The situation happens on me so far…
I log in PSN on computer.
I was requested to reset passwords and the email came 4-5 hours after, then I have my passwords updated on account along with 3 PSPs.
I am able to download purchased games, but I can’t browse PSP store.

Similar issues…albeit our email came within about 2 hours vs 4-5.  Only had to reset MY password, he didn’t get prompted to reset his account pass, on same unit?  I don’t recall seeing any firmware update, but I was on Aion while he was trying to get the PS3 up n running again to watch Netflix w/subtitles.  The Bravia fails us there.  >..<
