Samsung Galaxy S II headed to AT&T, Verizon, Sprint

mobile

According to a leaked silicon gel accessory page for the Samsung Galaxy S II, the highly anticipated phone will at least be landing on AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint in the U.S. The information also reveals the unique names that the phone will receive from each carrier. It will be the Samsung Attain on AT&T, the Samsung Function on Verizon Wireless, and the Samsung Within on Sprint. Oddly, those monikers don’t seem to nearly portray the hardware muscle of the device and we’re surprised to see no mention of T-Mobile. The Galaxy S II sports a dual-core processor, a large Super AMOLED Plus display, an 8-megapixel camera capable of recording HD video, and runs Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread with Samsung’s revamped TouchWiz 4.0 user interface on top. There’s no word when the Galaxy S II will make its U.S. debut, although we wouldn’t be surprised to see a summer launch.

This is probably the highest rated phone from any manufacturer in a long time… from many different blogs.  If you don’t have a point just…shut up

      • Bringit

        more like over rated.

      • Anonymous

Because of? Or do you still not have a point? Have used the phone? . . . Do you have something sensible to say about it?….. didn’t think so

      • http://twitter.com/drumboy_ Aaron H

Because it looks like an iPhone but stings like a bee?  Seriously, people are excited about this phone of which play out beyond your opinion of whether or not you’re excited about the product.

      • Drew

More like, “I don’t have a point to my argument, it does EVERYTHING better than my iPhone, I’ve never held one or even actually read ANY of the reviews on it aannnnddd….I’m just gonna call it overrated because that’s what us Apple douche’s do. When we don’t have any talking points we quote sales figures or call it overrated”.

      • Bringit

        Pathetic troll is pathetic.

    • Cornbread

I agree. And would add an extra snore. I cannot imagine using a device like this as an everyday phone. BB and iPhone arefine android OS is crap. Pity too because the devices and choices are terrific

      • Georgety

I’m also agreeing with the “snore” crowd. Samsung makes great products, but enough is enough on the android devices. They are the same with minor differences in looks and skin. They all have shit for battery and shit for typing. How anyone using a device for business doesn’t have a blackberry is beyond me. But I digress. Android hates ios and vice versa. I think you’re all too wacky about phones.

  • duhg

    I need this phone.

  • http://www.droiddoes.com/ Norm

Will definitely be picking up a DROID Function on Verizon.

    • Joe12304

For sure! If this had 4G tacked on, it would literally give me a full on woody.

    • http://twitter.com/tanujrocks Tanuj Chokshi

lol norm all of your comments on BGR are so damn funny.

I too will be picking up a droid function on verizon!

  • Racker

fine – rename all you but please don’t tweak the looks like the carriers did on the 1st gen galaxy S!!

  • BloodiedWraith

    Hmm… the accessory description says:

”opening on the back of the case to use the phone’s kickstand”I don’t remember reading anywhere that there was a kickstand on this device?

  • http://twitter.com/FondelMaJunk Sofonda Cox

    whoa…will it have LTE????

    • http://twitter.com/_elemenopee_ Kavin Nguyen

Probably not. 21Mbs HSPA+ is pretty darn good.

      • Adam8

Hold on a tic.  ’21Mbs HSPA+’ does not help the Verizon version.  Also, HSPA+ has been nearly a complete dud so far imho.

      • http://www.twitter.com/hokes Brendan

Not here in Canada where we have at least another year before we have the choice of any LTE service.

  • Dream

Why not Just Fascinate 2, I rather tell ppl that then saying ” o yea im rockin the Function, and there like a whatttttt”????????

    • Anonymous

Then you pull it out to show them and it blows out whatever phone they have… and you can be all like”Ya, who cares what the name is, the actual phone speaks for itself”

      • Dream

You know your right, lol imma fun destroying the looks on the i ppls faces when i show them that flash support haha

    • 1T2dirtnap

What do you mean? About 90% of the Android owners I know call their Android device a DROID. While holding an EVO in their hand.

      • http://twitter.com/tanujrocks Tanuj Chokshi

        lol that’s sad.

I actually like the 4 capacitive buttons on my Captivate as opposed to a giant clickable home button (iPhone anybody?) so I do hope they change that aspect of the phone… BUT NOTHING ELSE!

  • http://www.vgchartz.com SuperChunk

As long as the GPS is rock solid (vs the current Galaxy S line in the states), it will be my next phone.

  • http://www.facebook.com/amartincolby Aaron Martin-Colby

I want it, but I’m so reticent to consider ANYTHING except televisions that are made by Samsung. I mean, damn, talk about a company with a history of terrible build quality and support.

    • http://rmbo47.myopenid.com/ rmbo47

I too am DONE with Samsung phones until they demonstrate a history of actually knowing how to supper them.  There are simply too many alternatives in the Android space that don’t have the Samsung baggage.

    • http://www.vgchartz.com SuperChunk

Build quality of the phones was fine. GPS was a bad chip in the states, but there were no “quality” issues on the devices. In fact the hardware itself was arguable the best Android phone for the last year. Screen certainly was #1.

Then when you root it to get rid TouchWiz it was nearly perfect. Though, I’ve read the next iteration of touchwiz on these phones/tablets is far better.

However, support is where I agree. Its really bad it took them so long to upgrade the OS. This is probably why touchwhiz has been redone as they can’t let that happen again.

This phone has been out in the UK for a while now and its got a lot of good reviews. Look forward to it coming to the US. I was gonna pick the Sensation over this, but apparently the Sensation is locked down.

  • Scott

As an N1 owner, I’m considering this phone. However, I’m also thinking about holding off to see what the next Nexus will be like. Considering Ice Cream Sandwich is coming out in Q4, there should be a new Nexus to follow. And who knows what might change when they combine Honeycomb and Gingerbread. Decisions, decisions…

    • Bigmouth

I think I’m going to hold out for the Nexus 3, but it is indeed a dilemma.

  • Tony

Hopefully they will make the verizon version a world phone

  • Geoff Gohlke

I would be verrrry surprised to see a summer launch. P.S. get rid of the crappy UI overlay and I’ll think about getting it. I would much rather have the option to put this crappy overlay on my vanilla OS rather than have to root my phone and force it to do what I want it to do.

  • Geoff Gohlke

Oh and wow I don’t understand half of what anyone is saying in these comments. I guess grammar, correct spelling, completed words, and punctuation just don’t matter anymore.

  • Rodrigue623

Definitely getting the function! Can’t wait.

  • http://twitter.com/tanujrocks Tanuj Chokshi

im between the function and the droid 3 if motorola provides a bootloader solution though.

  • JaceK

Holding off for the next Iphone.  Tired of fragmentation, monster sized phones, touchwhiz and motoblur and all the associated bullshit.

    • Anonymous

Tell me how fragmentation affects you.
