Nokia to kill Ovi, market products under Nokia brand

mobile

On Monday Nokia announced that it’s killing off the Ovi brand. Beginning in July and August, the Finnish firm will rebrand its Ovi products under the “Nokia services” moniker, and the transition will continue into next year. “By centralizing our services identity under one brand, not two, we will reinforce the powerful master brand of Nokia and unify our brand architecture – while continuing to deliver compelling opportunities and experiences for our partners and consumers alike,” executive vice president and chief marketing officer, Jerri DeVard, said. Nokia confirmed it has “no planned disruption” to the roadmaps of its Ovi products, but that new customers will begin to see the branding change on devices shipping later this year. The firm will also rebrand some applications through future software updates.

Good riddance. No one knows/cares about OVI anyway. Just consolidate branding.

Nokia will kill Ovi. Nokia doesn’t care anymore, they’ll go to jail.

While they’re at it they should kill off some of their crap handsets

I have never seen a crap handset from Nokia. Perhaps not as good as Apple but nothing crap. Plus they have 200 models ands
E might be outdated, compared to 3 models of IPhone.

Right Nokia, because it’s messy branding that is at the core of your current problems. Sigh…

I like this idea. The average consumer doesn’t know what Ovi is at all and even I don’t understand why they were calling their marketplace and maps and such “Ovi”. It’s a cool name, but it didn’t seem to mean anything in itself. It’s not like having the Macintosh name under Apple. That has a clear purpose, it represents their personal computer business. It might have seemed stupid when the personal computer business was their whole business, but not now. But I digress, this article is about Nokia. It seems that they are moving in the right direction with their restructuring. “Cutting the fat” as they say.
