Amazon planning ‘entire family’ of Android devices, possibly a smartphone

mobile

Android is planning to release an “entire family” of Android-powered devices, not just one tablet as originally thought, according to Android and Me. The rumor hasn’t specified whether or not Amazon is planning multiple sized tablets, or a tablet and a new Android-powered eReader, although there’s some speculation that a smartphone could be in the works too. It’s no secret that the company is working on at least one tablet. Earlier this week Amazon’s CEO, Jeff Bezos, said “stay tuned” for more information on the product, which is rumored to have been manufactured by Samsung and could launch as early as this summer. However, Android and Me disputes those claims and believes the devices will land closer to the holiday season. Either way, it certainly makes sense for at least one Amazon tablet to exist: the firm has already launched its Unbox movie and TV streaming service, Amazon’s Cloud Player and Cloud Drive for music and data storage, and Kindle for books, all of which fit perfectly on a tablet.

” Android is planning Android”? Might want to reword that first sentence….

BGR doesn’t believe in proofreading, as evidenced by this and the droid charge release on “Saturday May 13th “

They will most likely be total duds. Other than books (which are already available to Android users) Amazon has nothing to offer in tablets or phones. to Android users) Amazon has nothing to offer in tablets or phones.

And Sony should have never gotten into the television market, because Zenith, Emerson and RCA had it covered and had nothing to offer. Right? Nice that you can decide the value before you see the device or anything. What exactly are you afraid of? That Amazon might get too much control? That they could actually put together a full ecosystem? Otherwise, I don’t get exactly it. They have certainly been pretty solid in their Android support so far.

      Dumbass.

You know the kiddies like you who come on here parroting time after time how Android, or more honestly Google aka The Great Evil Empire, can’t be beat is getting awfully old. Are you such an insecure douche that you fear a little healthy competition in content delivery and maybe even better platform hardware integration against The Great Evil and its business whores is a bad thing? Why don’t you just go suck off Schmidt already and be done with it.

What a moron!  You clearly know nothing about the market or devices.

      Take up knitting immediately.

I think that this will be great for Amazon. They would be one of the few companies that have full competition with iTunes. Not to mention that they could probably have a special sales deals if you buy from Amazon on a tablet they make. Another thing is what if they built a local deal thing that was only for their users.

If you take an Amazon Android device outside of the US, does it spontaneously combust?

Amazon is set up perfect to take on itunes.. itunes blows anyway. I always feel as though Apple is scanning my hard drive as my ipod syncs..

Bad move going Android.  They should have gone Windows and WP.  Oh well, won’t be buying any of these Amazon Android devices.

    • Steve Hillshire

Yeah, they should have done Windows for their tablet because the next version will “boot up” from standby in less than 10 seconds.  After seeing the iPad, why would *anyone* want a WinBloat tablet?  Microsoft has not the slightest clue what to do anymore in the mobile world.  I’m still laughing from the statement of only 7 – 9 seconds to come up from standby.  They’re still treating this like a desktop!!!!  CLUELESS!!!

sweet : )  , i love Amazon.. haha, but the first sentence definitely needed proofreading : ) Android is planning Android. Nice post though..

In general, Google and Amazon have a mutual trust with each other not to take on the other’s main source of revenue. However, they aren’t fully friends as seen in google books and kindle / google music and amazon music.
Overall, it’d be interesting to see what kinds of tweaks amazon makes to the device.

Wow good thing Apple made and reinvented the tablet last year just like they did with the iphone in 2007. 2011 is most definitely the year of the copycats which is fine. Samsung, motorola, htc, asus, LG, blackberry, HP and myself can’t wait to see what else they come up with.

    • Droidman101

Apple only reinvented the tablet, didn’t make it
HP had the first tablet around 7 years ago, get with the picture

      • Anonymous

Wrong just like every other fandroid. Does the hp tablet computer from years ago look anything like the iPad or tablets of today? NOPE Did I clearly type reinvented in my post? YEP there’s a big difference between a hp tablet computer and a slate style computer. Name one other successful tablet before the iPad. Ya can’t cause there were none. Hell there are not any after the iPad. Who needs to get with the picture again?

i just love hard core trolls like you! light up my day!

      • Droidman101

“MADE and reinvented” oh sorry, I didn’t see the part that said they made AND reinvented the tablet…
Now go back to worshipping your Steve Jobs while us smart people actually use the best to get things done (which, imho, is a touchscreen laptop right now)
        Go on.

      • Droidman101

        Oh and another thing
        Ipad (1)=the hp slate’s hardware+an ipod touch’s software.
        REVOLUTIONARY!

Like I said the tablet pc did not invent the modern tablet the iPad did. Just like the iPhone invented the modern smartphone. Open your eyes jackass.

This is a natch for Amazon – what with their Android app store – and the Kindle App for Android.   Totally makes sense to disco the Kindle equipment in favor of an Android platform.

***typo…first sentence, “Android is planning” should be “Amazon”

But anyway, I would totally purchase an Amazon product that was manufactured by Samsung. I’m already planning to get the Samsung Galaxy Function and the Galaxy Tab 10.1 (or 8.9) and I’d be fine with switching the tablet to an Amazon version.

I also think it would be sweet if Amazon made their own media player. They should go off the Galaxy S Wifi 5 and Amazonize (it’s a word…in my mind) it. My iPod Touch is getting replaced, and I’d not mind an Amazon player. It could sync with unbox and amazon mp3 and instant video and Kindle. Then they could have a 10″ tablet that does all that too lol.
