PlayOn issues new streaming TV API, adds 25 new channels in two days

Services

PlayOn on Wednesday announced the availability of a new API that makes building channels for the company’s streaming video service easier than ever. PlayOn’s new “dead simple” PlayDirect API allows partners to create new channels by simply specifying a URL for the video feed and then selecting the video’s viewable area. Since making the new API available just two days ago, PlayOn has already added 25 new channels including Food Network, Disney Channel Live, Lifetime and TV Land, which are now available to stream to computers and mobile devices. “By opening up the PlayOn technology platform to third party developers, we are able to expand the content available to PlayOn users,” a spokesperson said in a statement. “Just like Apple’s app store brought new features and functionality to the iPhone, we plan on seeing a host of new channels in PlayOn.”

As much as I want to try playOn as a worthy mobile application, its pricey, and its frustrating to set up. Also runs like crap on Android. Streaming anything is like YouTube streaming on the iPhone. Its that crappy.

YouTube plays great on my iDevice, among other things…think its the shitty Android UI, hmm?

Youtube stream great on my Iphone4, I haven’t a clue what your talking about!!! I also have PlayOn and have been a long time user, and it also works great. It was quite simple to setup. I use it mostly with my Xbox 360, but I use it with my Iphone4 once in a while also when I have some free time and it also works great. As for Androids issues, I won’t even go there.

I will *NEVER* have anything to do with this company again.  Bought their crappy app.  Worked until the next update.  Then stopped working.  They blamed it on Windows and refused to do anything about it.

    Never again PlayOn.

It doesn’t work as advertised. The streams start and stop. If you have Roku at home, you can get Netflix and the other channels already. Playon DOES NOT work for streaming local content. Save your money. There are better FREE apps available for that.
