‘Inside Apple’ gives rare glimpse into Steve Jobs’ personality, Apple secrets

Business

Fortune recently published an article by Adam Lashinsky titled “Inside Apple” that provides dozens of insights into the business and culture at Apple, as well as the mindset of its CEO, Steve Jobs. There are several juicy quotes and facts in it pulled from interviews with Apple employees, including Jobs’ reaction to the botched MobileMe and iPhone 3G launch in 2008. When the launch didn’t go as planned, Jobs called the MobileMe team into a town hall meeting and said the whole group was “tarnishing Apple’s reputation.” Jobs went on, “Can anyone tell me what MobileMe is supposed to do?” Upon hearing a response, Jobs wondered aloud, “So why the f*** doesn’t it do that?” Lashinsky also also discussed a speech that Jobs gives to employees rising to the rank of vice president, dubbed “Difference Between the Janitor and the Vice President.” In it, Jobs tells the new VP that it’s OK for a janitor to make excuses when things go wrong — but a VP doesn’t have that luxury. “Somewhere between the janitor and the CEO, reasons stop mattering. [That] Rubicon is crossed when you become a VP,” Jobs reportedly says during the speech. Lashinsky’s story is available in the latest issue of Forbes, which can be purchased in print, on the iPad for $4.99 or through Amazon’s Kindle store.

I love Jobs as much as I hate him.

I love getting jobs too. Oh wait…

And I love that avatar. Beats a contemplative Steve stroking his beard any day. One observation tho, the right boob is significantly larger than the left. Wonder if the same is true for labia and butt cheeks

    Steve Jobs to doctors:

Can someone please tell me what my liver is supposed to do?…

To be quite honest people like you deserve to go through the same thing you wish for other people (or make fun of.) I am not a fan of Mr. Jobs, and officially I’m a Goofan (aka Apple Hater) but the fact is that I don’t make fun of people’s misfortunes, because, among other things, karma is a bitch… I don’t think a person like you can have kids, so I can’t imagine you will ever go through it, but you MUST have parents or perhaps siblings. You probably would make fun of your parents dying of a nasty cancer, so maybe I don’t go there and maybe you’d do the same thing for your siblings. So maybe you actually would make fun of anyone in your family dying a horrible death or suffering from an illness. So there’s nothing really I can tell you, other than, I hope YOU don’t go through it. But you probably will, cause again, KARMA IS A BITCH!

one goofan’s karma is another man’s comedy.

Well you have to wonder what brought such a terrible affliction upon Mr. Jobs in the first place, if you believe so deeply in the power of Karma.

      • Anonymous

Yea Karma can be a bitch, but look at the “good fortune and luck” Mr.Jobs has also had. I wish I had some of his Karma:)

Heh, good fortune and luck for me is when I don’t overcook shrimp, or when hitting the red light at the right time allows for good timing and I am the first to turn onto the highway.

Most intelligent thing I’ve ever heard you say.

So Goofan, how do you think your karma is considering you obvious troll BGR regularly?

As a consumer, what’s not to like? The guy runs a tight ship and puts out well made product. Overpriced and not for everyone, but no one questions the quality of the hardware and most of the software (iTunes is grabage, where is the outrage for that?) Mobile me is a joke, Gmail blows it away for free. The stuff lasts. I have had the same ipod since 2004, works as well now as ever. I’ve seen people use iPhones with shattered screens for years on end. The guy might be a dickbag, but who cares? Not me.

Apple’s Human CentiPad is pretty cool, too.

For anyone who thinks “so negative” of Steve Jobs, read or listen to the book “The Steve Jobs Way”. Written by a man who worked side by side with the man and in some respects was a mentor to Steve. He does a great job at portraying the “human” side if Steve.

  • Fashosbest

Steve is a G, I can just imagine what he wants to say to customers emails when they threaten to leave to another smartphone or the media when they blow things out of proportion. Lol.

    Don’t care.

Yet still read the article and took the time to reply…..weird.

        Wrong. Didn’t read it.

i guess billion dollar companies run by billionaires and millionaires can act as strange as they want. Because they seem to be doing something right.

Look, I’m the first to admit I’m pretty critical of Apple, their lack of innovative engineering (hello, 4G?) etc.

But from what I’ve read of Steve Jobs recently, I greatly respect and admire him. Why? He’s all about performance and accountability. Awesome.

I’ve worked with so many people who flub around, collecting their paychecks with a “job for life” mentality. No hunger, no engagement, no ownership, no accountability.

Jobs on the other hand, gives people responsibility, pay, bonuses, and in return demands accountability. We can’t push out 4G by the end of the year? You’re fired. Antenna problems? Hit the bricks, pal. Problems with white iPhone enclosure? Hope that resume is updated.

When you get to a certain level, the buck stops there. No more “the team let us down”, “the engineers didn’t deliver”, “the developers were lying to me about progress”, etc. Bullshit. Don’t just believe what you’re told. Hire good honest reliable people. Embrace & deal with the bad news. MAKE IT HAPPEN, DON’T KICK THE CAN DOWN THE ROAD! Anyone can pass the buck. Winners make it happen.

So even though I think many of the Android phones are technically superior to the iPhone, I guess I’ll wait to see how Jobs’ management style works on this latest iteration of the iPhone. If we see 8MP, 4G and a kick ass processor platform, I’ll be firmly in Jobs’ corner.

All you need to know about Steve Jobs…

“Jobs returned to his previous job at Atari and was given the task of creating a circuit board for the game Breakout. According to Atari founder Nolan Bushnell, Atari had offered US$100 for each chip that was eliminated in the machine. Jobs had little interest or knowledge in circuit board design and made a deal with Wozniak to split the bonus evenly between them if Wozniak could minimize the number of chips. Much to the amazement of Atari, Wozniak reduced the number of chips by 50, a design so tight that it was impossible to reproduce on an assembly line. At the time, Jobs told Wozniak that Atari had only given them $700 (instead of the actual $5000) and that Wozniak’s share was thus $350″

Screwed over his friend. Doesn’t create shit. Arrogrant Prick.

Dying of cancer is very fitting.
