Sprint EVO View 4G’s Scribe pen retails for $80; not included

Exclusive

Here’s a head-scratcher. We’re hearing rumors that Sprint’s HTC EVO View 4G tablet will not, repeat not, ship with the snazzy HTC Scribe stylus. A report from Engadget on Friday indicated that the HTC Flyer tablet — the EVO View 4G’s generic sibling — will include HTC’s digital pen unless the device is purchased from Best Buy. Our own source, however, has indicated that Sprint’s training materials list the EVO View 4G’s Scribe stylus as being “sold separately.” The pen is one of the EVO View 4G’s differentiating features and, if the exclusion turns out to be true, would be a major disappointment. What do you think? Does this change your EVO View 4G tablet purchasing plans?

Thanks, BJ!

From what we are hearing: yes, as long as you don’t purchase it from Best Buy.

Aaaaaaaaaand Apple sells tens of thousands more iPads.

They should have included it, this is just stupid.

It really should come with the tablet, considering it doesnt even have honeycomb on it

Dumb. No dual-core, no Honeycomb at launch, and the one thing that sets it apart from other tablets is going to cost another $80? No Thanks.

$80? to unlock capabilities that make you ‘salivate’ (ew, gross)

What is an hepatatic stylus for an iPad cost? $8? Note taking app? $3?

    Double fail.

Who’s selling it in the US with the pen?

Truth in the old adage, “the pen is mightier than the sword.” I wouldn’t entertainment something if were forced to pay an additional $80.00 simply to utilize one of it’s key functions. No pen: keep it, I’d rather walk into an AT&T store and buy and Atrix with a Webtop dock.

I feel sorry for the tablet Mfg. who are not apple right now. They gotta make something or risk losing their brand awareness. But, the economy of scale makes the iPad probably sell for less than most tablets cost to make. It will get better, but not for a couple of years. App development will by the biggest catalyst, I think.

Who comes up with these things!?

“How do we make our tablet stand out?”
“I know! Let’s make it compatible with XXXX”
    “Good work, Johnson!”
“Wait! I have an even better idea. Let’s sell XXXX separately to make even more $$!”
“Brilliant idea! With thinking like that, you’ll make VP in no time”

    *sigh*

With a post like that I’m laying odds that the only Johnson is either in your mouth or your hiney.

Sprint does it again! They’re on a roll.

The tittle of this article gave me the idea that Motorola wouldn’t sell any kind of device unless it were a novelty.

I wanted one of these badly but not any more.

What the hell are they smoking? Why so expensive? What’s so special about this pen? I wouldn’t pay more than $15 for this thing.

    Price gouging at its best

But on the optomistic side of things, this can only make people avoid shopping at Best Buy if even for only one device/accessory. Any business lost from them is good business.

It had better be one magic pen for $80.00
