MLB intros MLB.TV mobile phone only subscription for $50 per year

mobile

MLB has announced a new MLB.TV subscription package that’s aimed at baseball fans that only want access to live play-by-play content on their mobile phones. The package costs $49.99 per year, which is a considerable price drop from the MLB.TV Premium ($109.99 per year), and standard MLB.TV ($89.99 per year) packages that also include support for PC/Mac, Roku, Boxee, and playback on specific connected televisions. The only requirement is that you have an iPhone, iPod touch, or an Android 2.1+ smartphone with the $15 MLB At Bat 11 application installed. Now all you need in your cubicle is a mini-fridge with a few sixers of Bud Light. Oh, and a winning baseball team.

unfortunately, you cant watch the home team because of stupid blackout rules. If not because of that, i would deffinately pick up this subscription.

Look up a program called location spoof for your jailbroken iphone….you can watch any game if your phone believes you are in Tijuana Mexico….

That’s why Jailbreaking is sooo important; turns it into a REAL and capable smartphone.

If you’re paying $49.99 subscription per year, shouldn’t the app’ be FREE?? I wouldn’t get it just because of the app’ fee!
The blackout rules are also a deterrent but, not as much as the app’ fee!!!!

Individual content apps like this just make my decision to buy a Slingbox a few years back even more cost effective.

I cant seem to see iPad on this…Must be an oversite on MLBs part, but probably not. With the latest update for MLB for iPad allowing screen mirroring, I see this as a deliberate push.

Still doesn’t work on the PS3, go figure.

So it’s $50, and you’re still subjected to local blackouts? Pass…

If baseball had a salary cap I might consider watching… Until then 70% of the league isnt worth the time. Just look at what happened to Tampa- they scouted out a World Series caliber team only to have NY and Boston steal their team once the player contracts were up.

$50 with blackout restrictions is a complete joke.

$50 a yr ought to get you web-based and mobile services. Baseball is boring enough. The last 100 ppl watching it ought to get more for their coin. lol

Just a note for anyone considering this…the video feed is horrendous. Ive tried it on strong wifi and 4g and it was pixelated almost to the point of unwatchability and even then the picture kept blacking out leaving you with only audio feed. I’ve only heard similar complaints from other users, so i expect the problem is not just with my phone (Evo 4G) or network. I still use it for the audio feed, but just wanted people to be aware, don’t expect to click on the video feed and feel like you’re watching TV.

On my iPhone it looks crystal clear with no drop out.
