Amazon launches MyHabit.com to compete with Gilt

General

On Tuesday evening, Amazon will take the wraps off of MyHabit.com — a new site that will compete directly with Gilt and other membership-only sites that offer discounts on high-end brands. MyHabit will have stiff competition, however, as Vente Privee has largely dominated the international private sales industry and will soon spread into the United States, according to Business Insider. The website will offer up to 60% off of select brands and sales will begin at noon EDT daily. Amazon says that it will offer free shipping as well as 360-degree views of products that are available. It’s unclear what brands are on board so far, but if you’re looking for a new pair of Louis Vuitton sneakers at a discount price, MyHabit.com could be a good place to start looking.

gilt, living social, groupon etc are all a bunch of bullshit. Just a method of moving old stock of product by providing discounts on outrageously inflated msrp prices

Actually what you have to understand about these services..for example GILT, is that after the service or item is discounted, then the company, takes their cut. So lets say you have a hundred dollar item/service, and you agree to discount to 60 dollars. Gilt then takes their cut out of the 60 dollars, leaving the merchant with almost nothing. While initially these companies sound like a good idea they can actually be terrible for the merchant.

I think you’ve confused GILT and Groupon.

I’m not. Gilt takes forty percent off of the sale price as their fee. At least in the service industry.

I can log into the site, but it is pretty much a blank page from there. Not sure whats up with that.

They must only have like 1 or 2 of everything because they are always sold out ASAP.

You have up to 2 minutes from when the clock strikes noon.  Make sure you actually want what you choose.  They will screw you out of return credit in a hurry.

Well, well….I ordered using the summer25 code.  I returned the item marked returnable and received nothing in return!  That’s right, they knew I paid for it entirely with the promo code and marked it as returnable.  When I returned it they basically said tough luck!  “No credit for you!!”

I promised them I’d let everyone know….DON”T GET RIPPED OFF!
