Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8660 processing muscle shown on film [video]

mobile

Qualcomm has released a few videos promoting its next-generation dual-core Mobile Development Platform, which includes its blazing fast MSM8660 Snapdragon processor. The video shows the platform’s Adreno 220 graphics processing unit chewing through 720p HD video. Similarly, Qualcomm’s single-core QSD8255 processor bests an LG Optimus 2X, powered by a a 1GHz dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor, in a Flash load test. What’s so exciting about that? The MSM8660 Snapdragon chipset powers devices such as the HTC EVO 3D, headed to Sprint, and the HTC Sensation 4G for T-Mobile that will launch in the coming months. It still won’t run flash, dude…

Well if it is a “duel” core, I would expect much worse performance since the two cores would be fighting against each other. ;)

they need to refine the current product before they shoot out new stuff. why is it that apple has a year old phone running an 800mhz processor and it scrolls and zooms so much more smoothly than everything android? it’s the polish that no one else delivers.

ps, i have an atrix 4g (had an inspire and a galaxy s with voodoo lagfix) so i’m no apple fanboy.

That’s nice. Now I need a good reason to need flash on my browser.

LOL @ the first video, blurring out brand names at the beginning of the video, and then forgetting at the end.

Why doesn’t qualcomm make phones they have all the parts to do it.

I believe that they used to at one point, but sold off that part of their operations to Kyocera or some such company.

It is a lot better not having to deal with consumers directly. I would count that as a blessing.

Interesting to see how it compares to the A5, which I imagine will be in the iPhone 5 (although I’ll bet it will be under clocked like the iPhone’s A4 to boost battery life).

Nice videos. In my opinion, Android-based smartphones powered single or dual-core Snapdragon processors will deliver optimal web browsing with flash 10 and HD video at 720P or 1080P. Anita Hix, Qualcomm Marketing
