BlackBerry Bold 9900 headed to T-Mobile later this year; HSPA+ enabled

mobile

T-Mobile USA has announced its intentions to carry the “first 4G capable BlackBerry smartphone” later this year, the BlackBerry Bold 9900. Made official earlier today, the press release stated that the 9900 would be HSPA+ capable, and we now have a U.S. carrier cashing in on those capabilities. Pricing and availability have not yet been disclosed, but we would expect the new and improved Bold to replace the 9780 in T-Mobile’s lineup and retail for $199.99 with a signed two-year contract.

Good news for those of us still on T-Mobile. But if “A Fee & Fee” does buy up T-Mobile then without the proper bands it’ll prove to be pointless.

and i personally with stick with my Android phone.

I’m not the biggest Blackberry fan but I have to say how spectacular and attractive the build quality is on this. It may be a bit late but hopefully this and the Playbook push RIM into the Future. I love Android but I really hope RIM pulls through.

  • Which way is Up?

RIM continues to sell BB’s like hot cakes. If we like it or not, that is a fact. As a consumer, I couldn’t see myself with just a BB as my every day celly. I have a 9650 running BB6 for work and an unlocked Desire HD as my personal phone.

RIM’s only problem is their timing. Since the Pearl, they have shown that they want the general consumer in additon to their business consumer. Finally with this device, they are looking to bridge the gap even closer. Gone are the day where only business folk carried a BB around. The Pearl and Curve line did that. RIm is inching and inching closer to the Android, Apple and Microsoft crowd… BB’s are great little devices for what they do. They suck at multimedia though.

I wonder how this will be…

This is a major contender….If they can extend the android market access they’ve promised on the PB to this device, we have a serious contender!!!

it is a major contender for clone of the previous 4 devices RIM has put out. That is all

You mean like an Iphone and every other touch screen slab or does that only count for a qwerty device with different specs, OS and dimensions then its predecessor?

  • Tyler

After almost a year since the Torch, a crashing stock value and plunging existing phone sales, RIM only announces this one phone and won’t even make it available for months. The analysts are right on – RIM is going down.

1230 mAh battery is a bummer when you think that my bold 9780 comes with a 1500 mAh. Come on RIM you can do better than that.

    • MitchofCityLove

The 1.2Ghz processor and BB OS 7 will handle battery life better and this has the same battery life as 9700 according to RIM

      • Kgunz

A faster processor drains more battery douche, the other bbs have 660mhz processor this 1 is double lmao, as for 7 operating system I highly doubt it will

      • Dan

Kgunz, shut the hell up. If there is one thing RIM is good at, it’s battery life. They clearly have kept this in mind while making the Bold 9900. Crackberry stated that the battery life was the same as the 9700, so stfu.

What haven’t the jerks at AT&T corporate announced that this device will be coming to their handset lineup in the next couple months? I want to replace my failing Bold 9000 and I want to do it sooooon!!!

What’s the point of the picture? They all look identical.

… and all iPhones and Android phones don’t?

I’ve never understood posts like this.

This is an improvement for RIM and to their lineup. I personally don’t own a BB but I do understand the complaints some have like a faster processor. Some want an all touch screen phone with no sure press. I wonder why RIM has hesitated in releasing phones so late. They need to step up and get the new phones to their die hard users. I am not a user but know some friends who are tired of their old BB.

Uhhhhh, isn’t that phone from a couple of years ago??????????

    • Anonymous

I could say the same thing about the iphone4…..and 5, 6, and prob 7

    • Dan

      Clever! But not really.
No, it’s not from a couple years ago. It simply retains the form factor, as it was quite popular and hordes of BB users were begging for RIM to revisit it. If you are going to try to be witty, try harder.
