Apple to fix location tracking bug in iOS 4.3.3; due out soon

Exclusive

One of our Apple sources has just informed us that Apple isn’t wasting anytime fixing the infamous location tracking issue in the iPhone and other iOS devices — it’s going to be addressed in an update within the next two weeks, possibly sooner, in iOS version 4.3.3. We’ve been sent the OS and while we haven’t loaded it on our iPhone just yet, here is what we have been told it will address:

  • The update will no longer back up the location database to iTunes.
  • The size of the location database will be reduced.
  • The location database will be deleted entirely when Location Services are turned off.
  • Battery life improvements.
  • iPod bug fixes.

That’s all we have for now but stay tuned for more!

    Tracking “bug”?

    Lol

If coded incorrectly, then yes. Isn’t that the definition of a “bug”. Oh wait. If Android forgets to encrypt the source file and also trim the data to most recent locations it is intended to work as designed because you, wait for it……”opt in”.

I say this was just very sloppy programming on Apple’s part. But yes, trust Google when you opt out and expect none of your activity to be recorded. They love customer’s that never question them. LOL

So I guess since iPhone 3′s were left out of the last update this wont work either, right?

I hope Apple will release an update that will have an option to hide the keyboard in the Messages for better viewing of text messages.

I don’t know whether to “clap” or to “boo” – this whole GPS system and tracking technology really has me worried, especially after the recent hack of the Playstation network – WHICH IS STILL DOWN – RIDICULOUS! and also with Pandora now feeding back A LOT of personal information, that they really shouldn’t be…. I don’t know what to think, I hope it doesn’t end up working? maybe that’s the best choice! lol

In any event, nice post John, or is it Johnathan? Cheers either way :-)
