Android 2.3.4 available to Nexus S owners via manual download

Software

Did you really think the kiddies over at XDA were going to wait “a few weeks” to get their mitts on Android 2.3.4? Of course not. A sleuthy forum member has uncovered the manual download link for Google’s latest iteration of Gingerbread. The file will update a stock Nexus S, running Android 2.3.3, to the most recent code — for those of you fluent in Android flashing, the package will update devices running build number GRI40 to GRJ22. Sorry Nexus One faithful, nothing for you… yet. If you’re a Nexus S owner looking to get your video-chat on, hit the jump for the download link and enjoy.

I really hope this update comes to the Thunderbolt. Patiently waiting.

I am pretty sure this is only for the AWS i9020T versions. So be careful!

Updated this morning. They fixed the issue where it asked if you wanted to turn off usb storage when you were in fact turning it on when using British English language settings.

BGR: PLEASE update to state that currently this is ONLY for the T-Mobile version (i9020T or AWS) so those that have anything other (i9020A, etc) don’t brick their phone.

I just tried this on my DROID X and totally bricked it. Thanks a lot BGR. Oh well I will just go out and get the DROID Charge like I was planning on today anyway.

Norm is post like that that make all Android users look like idiots.

While most of us are n3rd5 there is a difference.

and you get no points for blurring that line.

“Norm is post like that that make all Android users look like idiots.”

you are absolutely correct because if you were not an idiot, you would have realized the sarcasm is norm’s posts…..android users are not just punks who think they’re about to revolutionize the tech world with their crappy OS but like you said it: idiots.

      • RIMsucks

But your brick is still free and open so its OK

      • heyhey

agreed…… a free and open brick is way more ethical, beautiful, and functional than a functional user-friendly predictable OS.

      • heyhey

yeah just don’t get used to the droid charge too much because you still need to get the droid 3 remember? hopefully you have some 200$ layin around somewhere

+1 iPhone… Face Time works flawless.

Video Gtalk works only on wifi, with the S. Tested tween the S and the GSlate. Performs satisfactory but Tango is my first choice for general use.

Microsoft Tag reader fc with 2.3.4

  • Bringit

Is that an Android under her nose?

      You said that yesterday.
I thought you were supposed to “bringit”

      • Bringit

True. Still funny the second time around.

      • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AR6HpRLyzMY Walter Sobchak

        Not funny either time.
I’m sure you are a fairly unfortunate looking individual, given your misplaced aggression, and would expect you to be more sympathetic.

Can you upgrade from 2.3.1 to 2.3.4 or do you have be at 2.3.3 for it to work? I feel like an idiot for asking but I’m sick of waiting for OTA update. T-Mobile, nexus s, stock.

    • http://twitter.com/vastlymundane Joe

You have to be on 2.3.3 as noted in the XDA thread.

      • nexus s fanboy

So could I update to 2.3.3 from 2.3.1 and then to 2.3.4? Sorry, I know I’m an idiot

    • Sureshthunga

you have to go every update
      2.3.1-> 2.3.2-> 2.3.3-> 2.3.4 cant jump versions.

  • Joel

LOL @ Google. A fragmented update STRAIGHT from google. Doesn’t work on all Nexus S devices. Ya android users sure got the best OS… Not.

    • JJose

Well apparently the phone works amazingly well w/o the need for any updates. Just pretend that you ddin’t come across this news item and so you are unaware that there is an update out. That shd do just fine

  • Walkers405

Guess everyone forgot about the Droid 2…. oh well guess ill wait till the Droid bionic

  • http://twitter.com/Thorpeland Thorpeland

Im just going to sit tight and wait for this to officially get to my phone. Its a cool feature and all, but there are plenty of vid chat alternatives until I get the update. Im just happy to see Google finally get on the ball. You’d have thought vid chat in Gtalk would have been standard much earlier.

“the package will update devices running build number GRI40 to GRJ22. Sorry Nexus One faithful, nothing for you”

    That doesnt make sense.
Stock Nexus Ones are running 2.3.3 which is GRI40.
