Samsung's Alex Chrome OS notebook details leak

Software

Details of Samsung’s first official Chrome OS netbook, dubbed Alex, have surfaced in Google’s code repository. According to the Chrome OS development site, the Alex netbook will be powered by a 1.5GHz Intel Atom N550 processor and sport 2GB of RAM. A SanDisk solid-state harddrive of an unknown capacity, a 1280 x 800 pixel display resolution, Wi-Fi, Ethernet port, front-facing webcam, and Bluetooth along with support for 3G cellular connectivity and a Synaptics TouchPad will also be included. Google’s I/O developer conference is in just a few short weeks… perhaps Sir Alex will make an appearance.

Finally, I can’t wait to see how the new one looks like. The features sound awesome. They sure took a big leap from the prototype’s stats.

    It’s Samsung.
    This will never get updated.

Sure it will, you buy a newer Samsung that has the updates on it. Did you miss a memo or something. Samsung doesn’t update existing devices, their business model expects you to buy something new to get an update.

This is ridiculous. It’s not Samsung’s fault – blame the carriers. They are the ones who tell Samsung what crap additional bloatware is needed to differentiate their version of the Android OS from other carriers’ version of the same OS. This causes delays and thus updates to the phone. Samsung has to create the software and make sure it is copasetic (sp?) with the OS.

If Google just had some cajones (as much as it pains me to say this – like Apple), and said – everyone gets the same OS on every carrier – it would be so much easier, and everyone would get the updates at the same time.

This is not a cell phone, and Samsung’s laptops get updated just like everyone else’s. Let’s try to have a grown up conversation here, alright?
