T-Mobile adding 2GB Mobile Broadband plan to repertoire, rumor suggests

mobile

According to the latest rumor, T-Mobile may be adding a fourth plan to its Mobile Broadband portfolio. Currently, the company offeres three data buckets to its wireless broadband customers: 10GB monthly plan for $84.99, 5GB monthly plan for $49.99, and a 200MB monthly plan for $29.99. Blog TmoNews is reporting, however, that the carrier will be adding a fourth, 2GB monthly option that retails for $39.99 to its repertoire this Thursday, April 28th. The carrier-specific site has a fairly good track record when it comes to T-Mobile pricing and plan changes — we won’t be surprised if this broadband-addition pans out. The four plan menu would give T-Mobile the widest selection of consumer, broadband data plans amongst the quartet of major U.S. wireless carriers.

That’s why T-Mo is so awesome. But only to be ruined by a Planet size space station known….. as Death Star.

I feel bad for the Americans, in the UK (normally the land of the rip off) I pay £8 (about $13) for 5GB a month

If you are a T-Mobile customer with a voice plan or business with an active voice account you also get an additional 20% off the $39.99 tag so you only wind up paying $32 per month per line.

They reserve the right to throttle you if you go over 2GB’s but the great thing is you pay zero overages.

I like how T-Mobile gives existing customers extra perks like this.

I know not everyone likes to pay for a mobile broadband device especially when they can tether from their 3G or 4G smartphone but for many people these separate dongle’s offer much more flexibility since you don’t have to be tied to the device. Some of my engineers install these devices on remote terminals so it makes sense to use these instead of mobile AP.

The only problem is that I live in an area where T-Mobile’s 4G network is blazingly fast and you hit those soft caps too quickly resulting in throttled speeds.

If you are like me and live in an area where T-Mobile has great 4G coverage you should opt for the bigger plans. Throttled speeds suck believe me.

Tmobile should just come out w/ a plan that is every 2gb for $39.99. I hate how expensive data is in the US.

I second that about US Data, I am from England and I get Uncapped data, personal hotspot access, 2000 any network mins, 5000 terxts, free voicemail and a spotify premium account (cloud music) all for $41 WOW 10GB For $84.99, time to stop bending over, people!

Consumers in the US should be made aware that their mobile broadband costs are much higher than in the UK. Perhaps this is the only thing that is more expensive in the US compared to the UK where usually the £=$ for most goods.

There are unlimited plans in the UK and combined with text and any network phone calls. So for example I pay £25 per month ($41) for 5000 mins of same mobile network phone calls, 2000 mins of any other network calls, 5000 text messages and UNLIMITED mobile broadband use. I have tested the unlimited amount and it is indeed unlimited, I have had probably 40 GB this month from streaming BBC and SKY TV programmes. what is more I can get upto 6.7 megabit per second download and 1.5 megabit per second upload speeds. This is a 12 month contract sim only deal.

I think the US consumer is being ripped off perhaps there is a lack of real competition or coverage issues.

You realize that, the U.S. is much bigger than the U.K., therefore the spectrum that they build, is much bigger, and costs more. Granted that it sucks, the pricing, and only 1/2/5 gb for consumers bending over. I’d say virgin mobile, grab an android phone, tethering/wifi hotspot, 10gb at 25$ for prepaid. That’s a hell of a deal, I usually pull 1.2 mega bites… Not bad. Good move sprint.

Granted our prices for data is a little high compared to what you guys are say plans cost in the UK. But you folks pay almost $9.00 a gallon for gas! They probably feel bad for you guys And give great plans with unlimited data because you can’t afford to leave the house and sit home all day streaming movies and games!

Indeed, what you gain on the swings you loose on the roundabouts (English saying to do with playground rides).

As I said, we pay more for most things than anyone else so we are all poor (except Bankers), Our only pleasure is surfing the web for porn, downloading stuff illegally, communicating with terrorists and hacking into the pentagon (if you believe the press as thats all they talk about).

We should have more coverage and better speeds but the government here took £50 Billion in 3G licences from the carriers and that should have gone into better infrastructure and customer services etc…

The big kicker here is roaming data charges which are (data)highway robbery so we cant use our smartphones for data outside the UK (unless you can find a cheap/free wifi hotspot).

Swings and roundabouts, but still think the US could do better for its consumers with 3G/4G mobile broadband plans.

    Another thought too…

Your economy is tied to how fast business can move to take advantage of opportunities and how fast they communicate. If you have slow road and rail transport and slow communications your economy will be slow.

China, india and the Far East will easily leapfrog the US and Europe if they can move people and data faster and cheaper than us. So you need high speed rail, gigabit broadband by fibre to the home and office and 4G mobile data networks, yesterday. Get moving !

The 200mb price should be lowered i think to $10. Everything else seems really good for a mobile broadband plan.

    • serpentor

      Isn’t already $10?
