Will be interested to see how this impacts performance. My oldest son used his bday $ to get a nook color. Pretty good for a cheap tablet (of course it’s rooted) but not nearly as smooth as an iPad. Hopefully they managed to squeeze a little more performance out of it.

    • Douche

That’s because Android is laggy-ass crap.

    Beautiful. Time to update.

Does this mean one can put the Kindle Android app on the Nook?

    • Anonymous

My thought, exactly. If it has access to the full curated Android marketplace, that must surely include the Kindle app.

    • Carl

No access to the full Android Marketplace, only B&N’s store. Therefore, no Kindle app. But you can spend $2.99 to get Angry Birds. Oh joy…

      • DaHarder

Seriously Now… There’s no logic in B&N allowing other reader software (e,g Kindle) on their digital customized reading device.

The NOOKColor is an eReader (locked into the B&N online book store) first and foremost… and B&N have never claimed otherwise.

      • Anonymous

Well, Carl, you can root it. After all, it is an Android tablet that is meant to be an e-reader. But honestly, why should B&N open it up for people to not buy their wares? That ruins the razor-and-blades strategy.

Is the Nook Color good? What about the battery? I read it is irreplaceable, not even by B&N. I don’t live in the States so I must be very careful with what I ask from travellers to bring for me.

How good is it for reading and taking notes?

I’d really appreciate any inputs on these issues.

The battery life is awesome, and there is absolutely no competition in its price range that is worth a damn. The Viewsonic tablet is garbage as far as the screen and stock software are concerned.

        Thanks!

Now deciding between this and iPad2 got more difficult, don’t know what I’m going to do yet :

For several people should be obvious but I’m a very conscious buyer.

  • Nook Color

The Nook Color is HANDS DOWN the best deal for a tablet on the market today.

I got mine back when they were running the $200 promotion. Currently, it is rooted with CM7 stable and overclocked. It isn’t laggy, it isn’t buggy, and it is perfectly stable. The 7″ IPS screen is perfect in my opinion and the battery life is stellar. This update is great, but I don’t really care since I’ve had Flash ever since I rooted the device.

If you want a tablet, this is the best way to go.

    • http://twitter.com/palfrei Peter Palfrei

What about the problem to connect to Wireless G networks? I read it only supports the N norm? Where I live the N norm isn’t even on the market yet.

This update is not really that impressive.

    Big: Flash support. Works great.

Meh: overall UI is still clunky. Transitions in web pages are super slow, watching videos gives you random black/white flash screens.

Why bother: email app is a total fail. Give me the Gmail Android app and be done. Thank God for web access. Most of the apps in the Nook Market are pay, and none really appealed.

No change in book management, still have 3 screens that you can’t do anything with.
