Deal sounds good on the surface but, no thanks, looked into it already; there’s a mail-in-rebate involved and the Data Plans basically are all or 200MB of virtually “no data” for $29.99:

    Suggested retail $749.99
    Instant discount -$120.00
    Mail-in rebate card -$100.00
    Subtotal $529

    “Early Adopter Discount” – $100.00
    Total $429

    $84.99 – 10 GB Web access + Unlimited T-Mobile HotSpot

    $49.99 – 5 GB Web access + Unlimited T-Mobile HotSpot

    $29.99 – 200 MB Web access + Unlimited T-Mobile HotSpot

And, of course, Overage fees (which is the standard) if you exceed your monthly plan.

Would be great if they had Verizon’s Tablet Data Plan structure!!

I’ll wait for the XOOOOOOOOM GSM and buy Full Retail or buy one of those mAxiPads Full Retail and tether.

T-Mo has Overage fees? Don’t they just throttle your bandwidth until the current billing period expires.

And with all the pricing numbers you mentioned, the final cost for the hardware is still $429… Isnt that exactly the same amount as what is being advertised?

      • Anonymous

The hardware price is only the “final cost” when the purchase does not require an attached data plan; here the price is $429 + at least $719.76 (24x $29.99), which is $1148.76.

And, who uses less than 200MB of data monthly, that’s just absurd. Oh, you forgot sales tax and monthly plan surcharges and taxes. Add about $35 in sales tax and about $6-$8 monthly in surcharges and taxes ($144 – $192); roughly, extra $179 – $227. Therefore, $1347.76 – $1375.76 (Final Cost)!!

Lets see what G-Slate’s competitors cost us [5GB plan for 2 years]

    Xoom : $599+($50*24)=1799
    IPAD 2: $729+ ($55*24)=2049
    G-Slate: $429+($50*24)=1629

Looks like G-Slate is a better deal in terms of price and data plan.

ill take a 16 gb wifi ipad 2 for 499 and tether to iphone for 499 total.

        Good for you.

        touch a nerve?

      • El-father

And thats exactly what I’m doing!!!!!

    • Anonymous

Right, because it’s TOTALLY realistic to use EXACTLY 5 GB per month.

In the iPad scenario, you could go X months without even activating the data plan, since you can activate it on the fly when you need it, at no additional cost, making the total required cost $729 and making the g-slate a complete failure and the Xoom a lesser failure since Big Red still charges activation fees on it for some absurd reason (they don’t charge any iPad activation fees).

If I do not need data service, I would rather by Acer Iconia for $499 and save $229. Or wait for Samsung and other Android tablets that will be released soon.

Personally, its is not realistic to have any limitation in data use. That’s besides the point. Point was to compare prices incurred if we buy tablets with data service.

  • heyhey

we need a wifi touchpad to save us from all other pads!!!

getting a tablet on a two year plan is a bad idea.

Unless they increase the subsidy! But, right now, full retail is the way to go.

      • Anonymous

Also making the iPad the only 3G tablet worth buying as it’s the only one without contracts OR activation fees (Xoom)

      • Anonymous

Dude, XOOM 4G LTE can be bought full retail without contract. Activation fee (if any) can be waived as long as you order through Customer Service; in-store activations are a bit more tricky.

The basic amount is absolute the “inalterable expenditure” back the access does not appeal an advised accession organisation; actuality the assessment is $429 + at baby $719.76 (24x $29.99), which is $1148.76.

    • Anonymous

This was calculated HOURS ago by “Perspectively” see older posts/replies. However, as was also pointed out, $1148.76 does not include device sales tax and plan monthly surcharges and taxes. Full Retail is most cost effective, at least, until the carrier subsidy is increased.
