Sprint's Google Voice integration now live

mobile

Despite leaked information that Sprint and Google would launch Google Voice integration services on April 26th, multiple sources have confirmed that the service is already being rolled out to users. Sprint and Google announced the partnership last month, and the new service will allow Sprint users to access calls and text messages, or place calls through Google Voice’s Web interface using their Sprint number. Alternatively, users can opt to have their Google Voice number replace their Sprint number on their Sprint handset as well. International calls will route through Google Voice, which offers discounted fees. The feature is free and can be turned off at any time.

Thanks, Clayton!

Sweet! I would love to see this on all carriers, though. The upshot is this solves a lot of Sprint’s longstanding call forwarding shortcomings.

I have not been able to find an answer to this, so I will ask again here: does anyone know if you can have two Sprint lines on the same GV account with this setup? I have always wanted to have two phones with the same actual number (i.e. no tricks, no forwarding), and this might finally be the way.

Anyone got the Google Voice app now? I do. I have it set up so when I call international it runs through the Voice app. And I like the idea of having 2 separate numbers, still having all the features of Google voice. Not sure if someone can tell me what the plus side of this Sprint integration is? because I don’t get it.

Three advantages for me…..basically it allows me to interact with my phone through my PC…..that way it always appears i’m working and not screwing around on my phone. So when I’m at work, calls come into my land line, and….I can answer texts through my PC…thereby not having to ever pick my phone up while at work. Finally….I hate checking voicemail on my cell phone….too many prompts and takes too long. With Google Voice “voicemail transcription”…..all i ever have to do now is read the transcription via text or email.

Does the Transcription work better now? because before it didn’t do such a great job. And also does texting to the web app update automatically because before it didn’t and I had to keep refreshing the page so I stopped using it.

      • Anonymous

I don’t use the web texting, but I can tell you that the transcription is absolutely horrible. Most messages I get aren’t even close to accurate.

The main reason I want google voice is for the saved call logs and texts. Right now I use sms backup+ and it does a good job of backing everything up into gmail folders, but this should be way better.. It is immensely useful to be able to easily search thru thousands of texts with a keyword.. Really useful for business..

My only concern is can I still forward another gv acct to my phone? Because there are times when I need a different number forwarded to my phone like when I sell stuff on craigslist..

no more dealing with Sprint’s voicemail? and no longer having a sprint number show up when you call them (instead of your GV number).

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=57902506 Jason Brian Chapa

How do I sign up? I don’t see anything on Google Voice’s website.

  • http://profiles.google.com/bubi73reminders RD W

Don’t see it in GV yet, sorry.

    • http://profiles.google.com/claytonpaul Clayton Burnett

I don’t remember where…as i signed up a week or so ago….but as long as you have your current GV number forwarding to a Sprint phone, there was a field somewhere where you could sign up to be notified when the service was activated.

  • baray

WOW…mine was activated on april 5….a little too late BGR…

    • Anonymous

-__- ….. maybe you were a part of the BETA, its only officialy today. And even Sprint hasn’t said anything…. so calm down

  • http://twitter.com/WillieFDiazSF William Diaz ✔

Someone jumped the gun in reporting this story…

Select users were notified and were part of the BETA TEST for this weeks ago however, while some accounts may now be activated that were not part of the beta testing, not all accounts are active – including both accounts I have with two different Sprint numbers (2 Google Voice accounts, 2 Sprint accounts). Neither are my roommates accounts.

So someone is falsely reporting that the feature is live when Im sure many Sprint users still cant access the service.

    • http://profiles.google.com/claytonpaul Clayton Burnett

no “false reporting” here…i’m not a beta tester, just an ordinary user who was notified it was live this morning. I reported it as i saw it.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=57902506 Jason Brian Chapa

It’s not live. I don’t know why Clayton lied about it, but this story should be pulled.

      • http://profiles.google.com/claytonpaul Clayton Burnett

You are right…I completely made this story up. I’m sorry…but the fame and notoriety of submitting a tip to BGR and being mentioned was too much to resist. I did it for the girls….I just wanted to be a winner for once!

I guess Sprint and Google just like me and decided to roll it out to me first..maybe they like positive attitudes!?!?!?!? xoxo cpb

      • CHWDP

You may just be an ordinary user but this has not been extended to all Sprint customers yet. I as well have two google voice numbers and two sprint phones and neither of which has any option of the sort yet. What appears to have happened is they are just slowly extending it to more people from the original beta testers. You did jump the gun a bit in saying it was live for all users.

      • http://profiles.google.com/claytonpaul Clayton Burnett

please read the article – it says “Despite leaked information that Sprint and Google would launch Google Voice integration services on April 26th, multiple sources have confirmed that the service is already being rolled out to users.” ROLLED out….at no point did I ever say “live for all users” …but thanks for trolling.

Cry me a river.. Dam bro if you want news go to cnn.. This isn’t a freakin news agency.. The story is good useful and accurate if you cant access it oh well

  • Anonymous

    i want this on verizon

  • Anonymous

I personally would want to keep both, very few people have my GV number and I let them use it as an emergency line to always get me. I’d rather not have to change, bank, loan, medical, and other numbers to my GV. Anyone heard if we can keep both numbers?

  • Duh

How is this any different than just creating and using a Google Voice account on any phone? Seems like most if not all features have been available on my phone / accounts for awhile….

  • Brandon

You guys blurred the phone number in the small text in the middle of the screen shot, but left the phone number in full view in the big text near the top of the screen shot!

  • Hitnar

It’s still asking me to pay $20 to port my number. I thought it should be free?

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=57902506 Jason Brian Chapa

It’s not live, this guy reported false information.

      • http://profiles.google.com/claytonpaul Clayton Burnett

Dearest Troller…please see my previous reply to you. All the best, D’Angelo Vickers

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=57902506 Jason Brian Chapa

Get mad all you want, but you spread false information and it’s causing confusion as you can see. Just because YOU got invited to the early beta, doesn’t mean it’s live for everyone. Just admit your mistake and get BGR to retract your story.

      • Anonymous

        Ignore that idiot man

      • Not jason

Listen Chapa I’ve listened to you long enough yapping about that “its false information ” you’ve made your staement. Enough already.

  • http://profiles.google.com/claytonpaul Clayton Burnett

CHAPA – again…..I never said it was live for everyone…hence the word rolling. I will admit no mistake…. Retract my story…is this World News Tonight? and I’m done…..thank you for your understanding.

  • http://twitter.com/vpaquet vpaquet

We are rolling out this integration progressively, so it may take another couple of weeks before you see it in your account.
    Thanks

I have had this for about two weeks now. My biggest gripe with this service is that when a call comes in and I happen to be on Gtalk, it starts showing that someone is calling me but the cell does not ring till about 30 seconds later.

But, even with that issue, I am loving the convenience of answering phone or texting through my computer. The best part is, I didn’t have to give people my new number to be able to do this.

  • http://profiles.google.com/claytonpaul Clayton Burnett

I think somebody owes me an apology!?!!?!?!
    Thanks for the update VPAQUET!

  • http://profiles.google.com/derekaldridge Derek Aldridge

I had to remove my phone and readd it and then it gave me the options that I was looking for.

  • Delaen

Does this make my Sprint number suddenly stop supporting MMS since it’s now a Google Voice number?

  • http://twitter.com/kpoz Kyle

    No it isn’t.

  • http://profiles.google.com/junkmail4ryan Ryan Kessler

    not working for me

  • Anonymous

    Not live in NYC.

  • worldbfree4me

I’m all signed up and my GV is actively handling my Voice Mail and SMS. But I’m gonna miss my 2nd GV#! Per the EULA, your GV# will expire in 90 days if you choose to port your Sprint# to GV. The 2nd option allowed you to keep it, but you’d have to use that as your primary#. This is a beta test so hopefully we get a 3rd option to use either your main# or secondary# like before ala Palm Pre.

  • OldNerd

What about MVNO@Sprint (i.e. Virgin Mobile) numbers – will they be integrated with GV?

  • Damink23

it’s 4/26 and no GV for Sprint. Any updates?
