Software

Fascinate owners, the day hath finally cometh. Verizon Wireless has announced that its iteration of Samsung’s original Galaxy S handset, known as the Fascinate, will be updated to Froyo (Android 2.2). Documentation indicates that the code bump — labeled i500.ED01 — will bring support for Flash 10.1, improve JavaScript performance, and pack a handful of other small tweaks. Interested parties can navigate to Settings, About Phone, System Updates on their handset to order-up an over-the-air Froyo delivery beginning tomorrow.

tell me about it, Verizon has tainted Samsung’s reputation long enough. I think Samsung should just take control of the situation.

Clearly thou dost not know of which thou speakest. Software updates do not come from Verizon, or AT&T, or Sprint, etc. They come from the manufacturer, who has to spend time making sure their user interface works with the updated software (in this case Touchwiz UI). Verizon does add a few apps as well, such as VZ Navigator, VZ Apps, etc., but that does not delay the release of software. The reason the release took so long is that Samsung is trying to minimize competition for its upcoming phones, such as the Charge, etc.

Bing has a big impact as that’s Verizon’s requirement on this phone whereas Samsung would normally have left Google Search.

Its a mixture of two inept companies making changes to what is already great to begin with.

I wish Verizon would add a Nexus line phone.

Verizon has nothing to do with the Fascinates crappy GPS. Samsung simply bought a crappy chip.

The best thing to do is to get a custom rom on your phone and then there are no worries. Been living the Froyo and super fast GPS life for months now. Verizon is so slow to update phones, gotta do it yourself.

Yes. The EC01 radio from the last leaked build we got before the final release (ED01) completely fixes GPS issues for practically everyone. I can be inside my apartment and get first lock within 4 seconds and locks on about 10 satellites within 10-15 seconds, with accuracy to within a few feet.

    NO FUCKING WAAAAAAAAAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FINAALLLLLLLLYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!

  • Eric C

Does that mean that it is also de-Binged? If so I might get another one. I love my DInc but that Fascinate was sweet. Hate Bing and not having Google as a default.

You will be able to download the Google search bar widget from the Market.

Is there a working root method for Froyo on the Fascinate?

    • http://www.droiddoes.com/ Norm

Since DROID is free and open I am sure there is.

    • http://www.vgchartz.com SuperChunk

Visit XDA forums at your own risk.

I rooted my Samsung Fascinate to get Wireless Tether, is it as simple as unrooting then updating Froyo 2.2

  • http://profiles.google.com/xxshift Houston Cleaver

I’ve had this for about a week now.

  • Sean76

Just plain dumb on VZW’s part. This phone should be getting Gingerbread, not Froyo 7months after launch. I’ve already moved on to the Thunderbolt….4G is sweeeeeeet

    • Marshefen

How is this VZW’s fault? Samsung took forever to send out the update.

  • Ajsalin

    This include samsung continuum?

    • Brad

No, that’s a completely different phone.

  • Anonymous

Only 4 months after T-Mobile USA and 7 months after Europe.

  • Matthew

Just shows you how long until phones running 2.2 Froyo are going to take until they get updated to Gingerbread.

  • Esculpin2003

    froyo with Bing so stupid

Update is available now, just finished installing, finally enjoying some Froyo! Thanks Samsung and Verizon!

  • madatnumbers

I updated last night. Phone doesn’t work, stuck in a force close loop…I want an iPhone

  • guest

downloaded 2.2 and now I can’t get tethering using pdanet or easytether to work longer than 5 minutes. While i’m connected to the internet the “usb connected ” kicks on my fascinate’s screen and automatically disconnects me from the internet. It says, “phone connected to computer via USB. Tap the button below to copy files between the computer and sd card.” When it does that it disables the USB debugging that needs to be enabled for the internet connection to work with these tethering applications. Does anyone know what to do to deactivate that so that it doesn’t kick me off?
