Reuters: Apple to ship iPhone 5 in September

Reuters is reporting that Apple, Inc. will ship its next generation iPhone — oft referred to as the iPhone 5 — this September. The publication cites three sources “with direct knowledge of the company’s supply chain” and adds that the updated iPhone will sport a “faster processor.” Reuters writes that Largan Precision Co Ltd will be responsible for the new device’s camera sensor, Wintek Corp for its touchscreen panel, and Foxconn Technology Co Ltd for case production. “The companies would begin production either in July or August before shipping components to Hon Hai Precision Industry Co Ltd, flagship of Foxconn Technology Group, for assembly,” the site’s sources state. Analysts and pundits have been utilizing supply-chain checks to try and determine when Apple’s next smartphone will hit store shelves. September of 2011 and January of 2012 have been the two most popular prognostications. The September timeline has been touted by RBC, Avian Securities and Concord Securities in subsequent, independent reports.

    why is this news? this same story gets posted every 3 days….WHO CARES!!! this phone is an ipod with cellular connectivity, which, btw, drops calls steady.

    DROID has already taken over. And by Septemeber there may not be anyone left that wants an iPhone. The collective of DROID retailers will ensure of this. We have so many buy one get 10 free, 250 dollars off and free DROIDS coming your way that you will have no choice to DROID DOES!!

    I don’t want to be ‘that’ guy but explain to me why this story was posted and even considered remotely possible. They just sued their only supplier for well, damn near every component on the phone (term used loosely). Even if they could find a different processor what will they do about that 64GB NAND or higher? Samsung is the only company currently with those high density NAND chips so either the iPhone will get larger, or the memory will be much less.

    But hey, it’s Apple! 32GB=128GB, you’re just storing it wrong.

      Not only supplier, main supplier. And both Intel and Toshiba are leaning to 64GB flash.

      Samsung would also be suicidal to cancel Apple’s supply contracts. It’s the company’s main customer for flash by a wide margin, not to mention processors and sometimes displays. Sure, it could drop Apple, but there goes Samsung’s profits (it may even start turning losses).

    All you people who are hating on the iPhone are verry one dimensional I am an investor. I think about more than just the product I think about the company and the stock. Google has taken a huge loss and may be a good prospect. But apple I think is a better one. But when they launch the iPhone is important. All that said I am betting my money on a July launch.

    Went to toys r us today and saw the iPad. Talked to a worker and asked if they were going to carry any Android tabs. He said they do but that it wasn’t selling well and feedback weren’t positive. I was baffled because of all the comments of the iPad being sold at toys r us yet I found a few Android tabs being sold at toys r us. How ironic.
