Samsung bites back at Apple in intellectual property lawsuit

mobile

On Monday The Wall Street Journal reported that Apple filed suit against Samsung for intellectual property violations in its Galaxy S, Galaxy Tab, Nexus S, and Epic 4G devices, and now, Samsung is fighting back. “Samsung will respond actively to this legal action taken against us through appropriate legal measures to protect our intellectual property,” the company said in a statement obtained by Korea’s AFP. “Apple is one of our key buyers of semiconductors and display panels. However, we have no choice but respond strongly this time,” one Samsung official explained. Furthermore, the Korea-based firm may file a lawsuit of its own. “We think Apple has violated our patents in communications standards,” Chung Jae-woong, a spokesperson at Samsung Electronics, told Yonhap News. “We are considering a counterclaim.” Apple said on Monday that Samsung’s aforementioned Galaxy family of products copied its user interface and “innovative style.”

the bickering is amazing, true… and having both an iphone and galaxy S makes me laugh, other than the fact they are both rectangular with rounded corners and back (duh, hardly patentable) there is the slit at the top and the single hardware button at the bottom which is similar to iphone, true, but the interface? what? the interface is similar??? good god, you really have to be joking. Iphones do not have ANY widgets. The galaxy S is all about widgets on the interface… so what ARE the on about? It’s just pissing on trees that’s all. And all the companies do it, it seems.

Apple is scared of Samsung. You only sue if there’s a threat.

Yeah sure. Were you also kidnapped by Aliens last night?

At best, you don’t have Samsung as your supplier anymore but then now you need LCD displays for your iPad, iPhone and iPod… Hmmm… LG is the only one you have left and they’re in a wonderful position to sue your ass for the Prada. Yes, they’ve supplied you with the iPhone 4 screen but that can quickly come to a halt. You better get that plant in Brazil built pretty quick…

Apple is truly stupid if they think suing one of their suppliers was a good idea. If I were Samsung, the cost of parts would double overnight…..

i fail to understand how samsung can possibly deny that they copied the “look and feel” of apple’s products, i mean really, just look at the bottom of the galaxy tab in the picture for this article, that could be the bottom of an iphone 4 if it was silver! and with the OS overlay too, 4×4 app grid with a 4 app “home” line? could it be any more like iOS’ home screen? and then the shape of the galaxy phones, with the speaker and front facing camera in the same layout as iphone 4′s, and the one physical button bottom middle of the front, could it be any more blatant?

    Really Samsung?

Dear Apple, lots of devices used a grid of coloured icons before your iphone. You also didn’t invent nor innovate the tablet. You just made it profitale.

Anyone used Windows 98 before? That’s got a grey bar across the bottom with square icons on it. Maybe Apple should sue them too.

Go get em Apple protect your IP. Remember when everyone used resistive screens you went capasitive. Everyone played follow the leader. Now they all use capasitive screens. Remember when you made the furst true tablet not some laptop that you could flip the screen. The first tablet which is cool and fun! Now everyone jumps on the bandwagon. Don’t worry Apple you are truly the innovator which every other company strives to be. So protect your property. Don’t worry, as you already know Samsung will be begging to renew their contract with you. After all it was you that kept them a player when you made them billions from all the iPhones and iProducts you’ve sold over the years. Honestly they need you more then you need them. But I’m sure you already knew this and probably the reason why you sued them in the first place.

Samsung should start innovating more, it’s pretty obvious that they were trying to copy Apple’s layout.

The whole point of this debate is apple’s design is not innovative. They don’t have a ground to sue samsung.
Doesn’t matter it looks similar or not. It is not apple’s design in the first place. They didn’t invent them all.
