Motorola delays DROID BIONIC until summer, makes changes

mobile

Well, we suppose there’s a good and a bad here. The Motorola DROID BIONIC was lightly rumored to have been cancelled due to repeated internal delays — said to be related to heavy battery life issues among other things — but that isn’t exactly true. Originally slated to be released in the second quarter, Motorola has now placed the BIONIC on a (late) “summer” release schedule, complete with “several enhancements to make this an ever better consumer experience,” according to a Motorola spokesperson speaking to The Wall Street Journal. We’ll always have you, ThunderBolt

The Targa is the the Bionic now!

    • Calvin Williams

No it’s not. That wasn’t true.

      • http://www.twitter.com/helmes/ Henry

        The Targa does exist.

      • Calvin Williams

Yeah but it’s not taking over the Bionic name.

Atrix, Thunderbolt, Galaxy S 4G… I’m thinking Android users aren’t going to spend too much time crying over the delay.

On to the next one.. making my choice really easy motorola, looking at the galaxy s II now..

Will that be a Big Red phone? I’m itching for an upgrade as well (from the Droid 1)

      • Calvin Williams

Look into the Galaxy S2. It says amazing all over it. Mainly the gorgeous screen, 1GB RAM and dual 1.2ghz processor.

      • Jroc869

as long as it comes out of the gates running 2.3 im in on the S2 it just looks sick.

      • Calvin Williams

        @Jroc869
By the time it comes out on Verizon, I will be hoping it has Ice Cream

    • Emily

No dedicated search button means I’m not even considering the Galaxy S II

Why are all the LTE phones announced to date the exact same? How about something smaller!!!!!!!!!!!! aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I want one but not something that big.

    • http://www.jeffreychew.com Jeff Chew

      That’s what she said.

      • Monique

Lol that’s a good one. But yeah not everyone wants a gigantic phone. I’ve tried the thunderbolt. It’s big and clunky. Hopefully someone can make a phone that has a bigger screen but a smaller casing.

      • Calvin Williams

Galaxy S2 will be the thinnest phone in the world when it releases. I have big hands so the Thunderbolt fit fine for me, but if you want thin, just wait for the SGS2

    BGR…worst site ever.

    • TUPAPI

If it’s so bad why do you come here? Or even waste your time posting a comment on this “worst site ever”

      • Mike Morales

Because lame people like you comment

Nothing new here. Another failed product in it’s string of failures.

    • Yup

yet still has a huge marketshare that is growing like your mom’s pubes…even surpassing crApple.

    • http://www.jeffreychew.com Jeff Chew

      its, not it’s.

If you’re going to troll, at least use proper grammar.

Maybe this extra time will allow them to unlock the bootloader… I guess I can keep dreaming. When are the next rumors going to start for another Nexus? The Nexus S blows

My perfect phone right now would be a Droid Incredible 2 with switchable 4G LTE “on/off” (either via a widget, “display on” like wifi, or physical toggle.)

    • Anonymous

Nah, man. Gotta have that dual-core.

      • Tim242

        For what?

      • http://profiles.google.com/zshazz Chris Cain

For the … quadrant scores … n’stuff. And because we’re extreme and need the latest stuff.

Ignore the fact that people waiting on the “latest and greatest” technology behind the Bionic gave up the opportunity to get a 1-year contract (which used to be a great way to keep on the bleeding edge).

(I got a Thunderbolt on 1-year contract at release)

      • Emily

        For zee Eeeeepeeeeen

    • albertadds

From what I’ve heard from different Verizon reps it’ll be an LTE phone so

    • Emily

Droid Bionic sans Blur with an unlocked bootloader. That’s my perfect phone right now.

  • Joel

Every screms they want 4G but no one can get LTE right. Ugh, they should of been prepping for LTE devices a year ago, common HtC and Motorola

    • Trek7011

Are you on crack? I’m asking because I think you meant to write “Everyone”, and I guess you meant to write “screams”, and I guess you meant to write “should have”, and I’m guessing you meant to write “come on”, and I’m guessing you meant to write “HTC”, and I’m speculating you meant to end your sentence with a period….. but that’s a truckload of guessing.

I say the delay is due to product overlap. The Thunderbolt is just getting off the ground and you want to launch yet another flagship device to cannibalize the Thunderbolts’ sales. Imagine BMW launching the 2011 535 now and turning around launching the 2012 in December? Sprint has it right, launching new devices every quarter and Flagships annually. Most people are locked in 2 year deals, so it makes no sense to launch into a pool of so few buyers IMO.

    • DasApollo

Your comment doesn’t make sense. I could understand if it was another HTC phone, but to use your example, it’s like BMW launching the 2011 5 series, and Mercedes delaying the E Class to work out some kinks. Different manufactures. I don’t think Motorola cares about cannibalizing the sales of HTC.

      • Jprice7718

Yeah but it’s not like you buy your BMW from Exxon.

  • Steve Hillshire

I’m sure the delay is so they can get a huge stockpile of these for a BOGO sale from day 1. This is how Android gets all of its sales. (/iTard)

    I love this beast phone!

  • Xxn3moxx

so much for unlimited LTE with the bionic

  • http://webhostingreview.info/managed-hosting/ smithon

so we have to wait for its release

  • Deblurred

“to make this an ever better consumer experience…” That’s funny, that crap about better customer experience is just what they said when they abandoned the cliq xt on android 1.5 with no update because their stupid blur wouldn’t play nice with android. So this is probably delayed because of a blur problem
