Verizon Wireless 4G LTE MiFi available now, in stores April 21st

mobile

While we’ve been testing out Samsung’s 4G LTE mobile hotspot for a couple weeks, there’s just something about Novatel that we can’t shake. After all, they were the first with a MiFi device. If you have been holding on to the thought of a 4G LTE MiFi ever since CES, today is the day. The Verizon Wireless MiFi 4510L 4G LTE mobile hotspot is now available for purchase from Verizon online, and will be available in stores on April 21st for $99 after a two year service agreement and rebate. Verizon’s $50 monthly service plan gets you 5GB of data usage, with additional usage billed per gigabyte. The new MiFi, in addition to obviously supporting Verizon’s 4G LTE network, features the ability to share a microSD card over your mini wireless-network and offers an eInk display which conveniently shows network status and battery life at all times on the front of the unit. Verizon has also noted — via Twitter — that it has “a mess of new cities and towns” launching with LTE this Thursday, April 21st. The full press release is after the break.

This will be GREAT for people with “those” tablets that don’t have built-in 4G LTE radios because the manufacturer needed the space for that huge 0.30 Pixelated VGA camera.

Or for those like myself who got a Wifi only XOOM that wanted 4G without having to send back my precious XOOM.

Norm, I’m shocked. I’m still waiting on the XOOOOOOOOM GSM since, Verizon’s discount isn’t enough to make it a carrier subsidy to warrant a two-year contract only to not be able to XOOMly travel abroad. But, I feel your concern, parting would be so difficult.

I bought the Samsung SCHLC11 on April 6th. I wonder if I should have waited for the Novatel?

Yes, you should have waited. My friend has already been through 3 Samsungs and he’s only had it about as long as you have. Apparently there is a manufacturing issue with the Samsung. : (

Thankfully I was able to return it this afternoon. Just made the 14 day window.

Sweet! Glad you got rid of it! I got Novatel today, and it is amazing!

Samsung or this device? which is better?

  • Ambition42

I have had mine for two weeks, no problems and works fantastic in both 3G and 4G locations.

Just ordered mine with overnight delivery. Can’t wait to fire up this thing and see what kinda speeds I’ll get. Glad I waited for this device over the Samsung.

The Mifi just arrived. Pretty wicked speeds up and down stream.

    • jim

I got faster upload and download speeds on the Samsung. The Novatel is also having issues finding an LTE connection. I had to go into the config and make sure it was just setup for LTE only. Wish I’d kept the Samsung now :(

Can the gps be enabled or did verizon not enable that?

  • bluehorseshoe

Correction on the story…there is no ‘mini SD’ card sharing slot on the device. Also, the device is having some serious issues connecting to LTE. The Samsung had no issues with connections, however WiFi standby locks the device out and only resets will correct the issue at this time.

I had to get my SIM card swapped out yesterday. I can now connect to LTE. Before it would just find a 3G connection.

Is there going to be a discount on the $50 or $80 a month plan that’s needed with these?
