Internal comparison pits DROID Charge against ThunderBolt, iPhone 4, other Verizon phones

mobile

Android enthusiast blog Android Central has obtained what appears to be an internal Verizon Wireless document that compares the upcoming Samsung DROID Charge to four other Verizon smartphones. The sheet lays out the Charge’s specs next to the HTC ThunderBolt, the Samsung Fascinate, the Motorola DROID 2 Global and the Apple iPhone 4, and the upcoming 4G phone certainly holds its ground against each device. The only previously unknown feature revealed by the document is the DROID Charge’s enhanced mobile hotspot functionality, which will support up to five devices in 3G coverage areas and up to 10 devices when connected to 4G. Finally, we should note that one key category — battery life — is noticeably absent from the comparison sheet. Considering the Charge’s massive display, 4G LTE compatibility and enhanced mobile hotspot feature, interested parties should likely plan on picking up an extra battery or three should they opt to buy a DROID Charge following its launch. Hit the jump for the full internal comparison sheet.

looks like they’re trying to highlight iPhone’s shortcomings.

    • Bringit

Yup – makes sense to compare a phone that came out last summer to new anddddooooiiiidd phones. At least it gives the ddrrooiiiiids a fighting chance. Not really though.

Is your keyboard ok? I think you have some stuck keys.

Its funny because the iPhone came out ALMOST a year ago and it is still hanging around with the new “HIGH-END” Android phones

      • Bringit

Exactly. Kind of like PAPINYC coming out of Tim242. Keeps hanging around for one more shot.

LMAO!! good one. (sry tim but that’s funny)

Yet it was there best selling phone.

well said they are literally trying for it

BUT will they ever update the software??? How about a category with a lil’ over/under action????

well you would think verizon would want to have at least gingerbread on their two top phones, the new droid charge and thunderbolt. Also i dont see anything to exciting that most other brands have out as well. I guess Verizon just wants to try and get you to forget how much you are going to spend on these phones.

They also list things such as video as only youtube, and list the bloatware that comes welded to their phones haha.

If you ever used Android… You would know you could add or remove anything you want. Open = Freedom

This looks like an ifail list to me.

      • Anonymous

You do have to root…,but, easy enough.

I’m currently finishing up my Master’s degree – so on a university campus filled with young, smart individuals. Most people however cannot even be bothered to keep their software and OS up to date, let alone root their phone. It is not an issue of ease, or of IQ – people just do not care. It seems crazy to me, but it is just a case of most people not sharing my concerns or interests. It is why carriers fight so hard to put their crapware on their phones – they know that most people will not like the experience, but not enough to bother to do anything about it, so will continue to use whatever is available.

i call bull on this one because i used android for two years and i can give anybody a lesson on it. you have to root to gain full control of device so it’s NOT OPEN, NOT OPEN, NOT OPEN. iphone owners CAN ALSO root so they too can have it OPEN if they want. stop bee essin …

      • 1T2dirtnap

Shows you know very little or just try to mislead the common consumer. Locked boot loaders, difficult to root. Yeah, Android may be open source, but it’s far from open in the sense you and many Goofan’s refer to.

Z4root is an apk (app). You click it and it roots your phone. Rooting is simply taking control of your phone… not Verizon or at&t. once rooted you can do what you want. Its the carriers that lock down the system. Not Google.

      • 1T2dirtnap

Z4root is pretty much dead hasn’t been updated in a while and doesn’t support most newer 2.2 builds. SuperOneClick is probably the best oneclick option out there. Would I recommend it to anyone, no. If you have NAND lock you’re looking at temp roots till you remove it. I rooted both my DInc. and DX, it wasn’t user friendly. Thus case and point. It’s much easier with iOS.

Open? Look’s like you need to read up on the way google is doing thanks these days.

  • heyhey

well, i guess they have to tout the hardware since the software is not there……

  • LordofTheNorth

So every device listed running 2.2…..really now…….pretty sad since 2.2 has been out for so long.

I would have def thought the Charge would have been running Gingerbread hands down.

Ive used plenty of older and current devices and right now WP7 is the only OS that im truly interested in seeing grow to outnumber the competition.

Android is just boring to me now a days and with all the crap ive been hearing about some of their Apps being suspect just isnt a good look for Android.

  • 1T2dirtnap

Funny how this almost year old iCrap device is hanging with the latest offerings. Android 2.1? Seriously! No wonder Apple doesn’t feel the need to release an i5 anytime soon.

    • Anonymous

Ya that year old icrap that’s put up against every new phone that comes out since 2007. And now iphone 4 that came out 10 months ago. Weird huh?

      • 1T2dirtnap

        Very.

  • Anonymous

No way. Android phones are only supposed to compete against the iPhone not against each other. Google will subsidize the OEMs. All they have to do is beat apple. This is wrong man.

    Bionic???

  • DKWIA

Sorry, no Flash support on the Fascinate running 2.1, nice try though VZ. After dealing with the nonexistent update support for the Fascinate, I will never buy another Samsung again. Shocked they would have the balls to even put that POS in the comparison.

  • Anonymous

No wonder apple is rumored to be putting off the iPhone 5 release. Why come out with a new version when the current one is still able to hold its own against the top android phones just being released.

Looks to me like the TB is the clear winner. I have the Fascinate, and the hardware has serious hardware flaws (failing GPS and unable to charge and operate the GPS together). I would give the TB a go before Samsung..

think of it this way when an airlines has problems with building error what happens when they build another one, its usually the safest airlines to fly after they realize their mistakes…
