I tried it on my TBolt. It definitely works and is definitely only for the Thunderbolt. From what I’ve seen so far it does not work on the XOOM or any other phone with a front facing camera. It works for video calls from phone to PC and vice versa.

I couldn’t get Skype to pc to work don’t know why

      • Anonymous

Did you try it with someone who is on your Skype contact list? And do they have a webcam?

      • Emerald9954

Yea I tried with friend that using pc went from video to straight voice, but Skype app from iPhone 4 work with it will try again later

Since android is so open and free I’m sure it will make it to all DROIDS very soon.

Ya something iOS had for a long time now

        FanBoy.

He is right. I am not an Apple fanboy. I do happen to love the iPhone, but love the Inspire 4G that I carry every day as well. Software on Android is frustrating because the big things only come out for certain devices. Netflix? Only on certain devices. Skype with video? Only on certain devices. Hell … I can’t even install a Gameloft game on my Inspire 4G unless it is rooted or I use sideload wonder on the PC. You can call someone a fanboy all you want. But truth is … software is a lot better and more efficient on the iPhone side of the fence because you really don’t need anything besides the phone. Apps run on all devices (maybe not the 2 year old model … but that is understandable), and do not require jailbreaking to install publicly available apps. I wish the Android market place was a single place where I could install any android software, and didn’t have to worry about if my device was allowed to use it.

This is more for @numetheus. Anyone that buys an Android phone on AT&T are bound to be in for frustration. Can install apps? Blame it on AT&T. They’re the numbskulls that have opted to inconvenience their Android customers with locking your devices to all hell. I’ve been an Andoid user since the G1 and I chuckle when I hear these spoon fed iPhone pansies talk of how the iPhone is this…and the iPhone is that. The iPhone is a good phone that bounds you to using an app (iTunes) just to get content on and off of it. What to put music on? iTunes. Want to add movies? iTunes. Want to sync contacts? iTunes. My Android device has spend very little time tethered to my computer.

I owned a number of iPhones and the fanfare is long over. It’s a device that’s a bit long on the tooth when it comes to features and functions.

Can you use it on 3G or only on wifi?

      • Anonymous

        3G, 4G and wifi.

Just like when iOS introduced folders? Something Android had for a while? Works both ways son…

      • jbutler

Apple didn’t introduce video chat Android had it a few months earlier than the iPhone 4 with the Evo. Also in addition to your folders comment, feel free to add in multitasking, a camera flash, voice commands, picture messaging, and the cutting edge feature of choosing your own wallpaper to that list.

      • numetheus

Android still doesn’t have folders for apps. Not really. I can create a folder on my home screen and create shortcuts for my favorite apps (pain in the ass in comparison to add individual apps. On iPhone its an easy thing to do because folder management for apps is built in), but generally, the list of apps is just one flowing list. That is kind of why the Folder Organizer app exists. I have my apps organized into folders with that app, but it took effort to do so. This should really be built into Android.

      • jbutler

Actually Android had it first with the Evo, hate to rain on your parade there but it beat the iPhone 4 by a couple months. Also Android doesn’t restrict their video chat service to the point of it becoming useless like Apple does by forcing you to use it on wifi only. Android actually let’s you choose between wifi and *gasp* the network (You know that thing you’re paying $30 monthly to use) And honestly it doesn’t get more hypocrytical than for an Apple fan to try and brag about having a feature first since for the past year and a half all of their “New” features have been in it’s competition from months to years.

      • numetheus

But its limited to the specific device. Just like some devices do Netflix streaming and some don’t. Android may have done it first, but iPhone did it better because it’s not limited. Netflix streaming on every device. I love my Inspire 4G a lot better than my iphone, but the software market is FRUSTRATING. I can’t even install some apps (Gameloft) without using sideload wonder or rooting my phone. Really? I want to be able to use my phone without assistance from my desktop …. period. You can do that with iPhone. On this Android phone … not so much unless you want to limit yourself. I know it’s not Androids fault, but these experience reflect on Android as a whole.

I FaceTime over 3G everyday with my friends who are also on 3G

        @Old Man Numetheous

What drugs are you on: ‘I want to be able to use my phone without assistance from my desktop …. period. You can do that with iPhone.’ ??????

Only if your iPhone is Jailbroken, even then you have to add everything through iTunes on guess freagin’ what????? Your desktop. Unless, of course, you , use SSH to transfer files via wi-fi. But, you’re still using guess what??

      • MacFan

        FaceTime?
You mean the video chat that only works on wifi? You’re proud of that? For the record. I bought a Thunderbolt yesterday and installed Skype video this morning. Had a 30 minute chat with my friend over Skype phone (4G LTE) to Skype (PC) and the video and connection quality was near flawless. Yeah, I tried FaceTime while chatting with my wife on wifi. She was cooking in dinner and I was watching TV about 30 ft away. Oh joy.

About time. It seems like we have been waiting for years.

  • Dara

    lol..

Phone to PC Skype was *taken away from* Symbian users before any of the carrier approved nerf platforms got a whiff of video chat.

Fring showed that this was completely possible years ago and the only reason it’s not widespread is because Verizon wanted to take some sheep from AT&T’s pasture and paid Skype off.

    And Google nodded.

    And Apple nodded.

And the sheep were alright with it.
