T-Mobile intros two new unlimited plans

Services

T-Mobile on Tuesday announced the addition of two new unlimited plans to its portfolio. Dubbed “Even More” and “Even More Plus,” both plans afford subscribers with unlimited nationwide voice calling, unlimited messaging and unlimited data. Both plans also include 2GB soft caps, so customers who go over 2GB in a single billing period will have their data speeds reduced, or throttled, until the next billing period begins. T-Mobile says its 4G smartphone users average about 1GB of data each month. “Consumers today are looking for even more value and flexibility from their wireless plans,” said T-mobile SVP of Marketing, John Clelland, in a statement. “While data plans for many of our competitors continue to be very expensive, T-Mobile is lowering the price of our unlimited plans and offering more options, making it easier than ever for customers to step up to a richer mobile data experience on our 4G network.” The $79.99 Even More plan is available to contract customers while the $59.99 Even More Plus plan is available to customers on a month-to-month basis. Both plans become available for a limited time beginning Wednesday, April 13th. Hit the break for the full press release.

T-Mobile USA, Inc. today announced that new, single-line unlimited plans are available starting tomorrow for just $79.99 per month, with an Even More™ plan and a two-year contract, or $59.99 per month, with an Even More Plus™plan with no annual contract required. Available for a limited time, the new plans offer great value for new and existing customers with unlimited nationwide calling, texting and data on America’s Largest 4G Network™.

“Consumers today are looking for even more value and flexibility from their wireless plans,” said John Clelland, senior vice president, marketing, T-Mobile USA. “While data plans for many of our competitors continue to be very expensive, T-Mobile is lowering the price of our unlimited plans and offering more options, making it easier than ever for customers to step up to a richer mobile data experience on our 4G network.”

Combined with an extensive lineup of affordable smartphones, T-Mobile’s new Even More unlimited plan allows customers to save more than $350 per year on an unlimited smartphone plan, compared to similar plans from AT&T, Verizon and Sprint1. Customers have the flexibility to purchase any phone in T-Mobile’s lineup and sign up for an unlimited rate plan — with or without a contract term commitment.

In contrast to some competing offerings, T-Mobile’s new Even More unlimited and Even More Plus unlimited plans enable customers to use mobile data on their smartphones without incurring any overage charges. Consumers exceeding 2GB of usage in a billing month will still have access to unlimited data at reduced speeds until their new billing cycle starts. On average, T-Mobile 4G smartphone customers consume about 1 GB of data per billing month.

In addition to its unlimited plans, T-Mobile continues to offer one of the industry’s most affordable entry-level data plans, starting at just $10 for 200 MB per billing month. The company also strives to help customers on these data plans avoid surprise bills with SMS alerts when they are reaching their data limit.

The new $79.99 Even More unlimited and $59.99 Even More Plus unlimited plans are available starting tomorrow for qualifying customers. To find the T-Mobile plan that best fits their needs, customers can visit http://www.t-mobile.com.

First off… who is in the picture? :) But…. will AT&T nix these plans or keep these when the merger is completed?! I like the cheaper Sprint plans because I get great service and no issues. But if AT&T has a very-near LTE future with insane speeds for low price, and NO CAPS… I might have a new carrier!

Thanks, I know who you are talking about too. Figured it might have been her… wasn’t too sure from that angle tho, lol.

Not exactly her best picture. She might want to insist on prior approval.

“T-Mobile says its 4G smartphone users average about 1GB of data each month”

    Anything to justify data throttling…….

  • http://profiles.google.com/faithnomore182 Seventh Son

Awesome! I’m currently paying 59.99 on the even more plus plan for only 500 mins + unlimited everything else. This means that I pay the same and start getting unlimited talk minutes and also don’t need to sign up for a new contract. WIN.

Throttled data is NOT unlimited data! Sorry tmobile fans. You have a 5GB cap that you pay marginally less for and get the added bonus of metro-only coverage. I dont see how adultered speeds of data is justifiable for any of you, but then again I don’t have to slum it with my cell provider.

    • http://profiles.google.com/faithnomore182 Seventh Son

How about those of us that don’t live in the slums and therefore in fact only need “metro-only coverage”. And what about if I’ve never hit 2GB in any month? It’s not throttled and it’s pretty quick. Works for me :)

Better than att who charges after 2gb

      • http://www.facebook.com/wixostrix WixosTrix

I agree, but I barely use 600 MB a month on my phone. Would be nice if they just charged $10/GB instead of screwing all of us with their crappy over priced tiered data plans, which there are only TWO of, wth…

If T-Mobile provides consumers with a basketball playing Eliza Dushku I’m obviously dropping Verizon lol

Sprints plan still better in my opinion. Better service.

Until you call them or go into the store for help. They couldn’t even give my friend a cheap phone, after his Pre fell apart, until his replacement arrived. At least with AT&T you can buy a GoPhone and throw your sim card in it for like $20 bucks if you’re without a phone.

“T-Mobile says its 4G smartphone users average about 1GB of data each month”

HA ! ! ! even with me being on Wi-Fi when i am at the house i hit 6.5Gb – 8.0Gb per month.

    • Dice90

How do you even come close to that amount? I use my phone a ton and I mean a TON! I listen to pandora while driving back and forth to work every day an hour each way and watch streaming video while at work and use it alot when I am out and the most I have ever done is 1.8 gb. I honestly fail to see how anyone could possibly use their phone more than me without literally having no other life other than starring at the phone’s screen constantly 24 hours per day.

        They download porn. That’s how.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_GP2WYAHXS6CRUREISWBGPUSUGE Michael

nope, no need to download porn. I don’t want to go to the stake house and just look at the menu.

I am a AIA and ASE certified Imported Automobile specialist. for a local mid-west based company. And i use my phone frequently for looking up hard to find parts for garages. long story short the browser and Wyse’s Pocket Cloud, linked to the computer at my home store, are my friend. and i know them very well.

      • Anonymous

AKA porn. Looking for parts does not use much bandwidth at all. You probably sync your music or some other data with your computer over the air as well. 6.5gb is insanely high.

A YouTube video is around 22mb (in HQ) that is what the optimus G2x and the Samsung Galaxy S 4G are for.

    • http://www.facebook.com/wixostrix WixosTrix

That’s ridiculous, unless you’re tethering and is constantly using data.

    • Anonymous

2GB on a 4G Android phone (or any 4G smartphone) is a meager nothing. What is the point of having a cool 4G smartphone when your data is capped? That fact that most customers use only 1GB must be customers who use their phones as paperweights. Just streaming an YouTube video in HQ takes around 20 MB.
I have a Verizon HTC Thunderbolt and it is on 4G LTE most of the time (it is amazingly fast by the way). Just to prove my point. I have installed Norton Utilities from the Android market to keep track of my data usage. I zeroed the app for data.
Starting at 0 MB, I streamed using the YouTube app some No Doubt Videos:
      After “Hella Good”: 22.9 mb
Then, after “Running”: 46.4 mb (23.5 mb)
Then, after “Sunday Morning”:69.3 mb (22.9 mb)
That is around 70 mb in just about 12 minutes. That is 3.5% of what my monthly data would be with this 2GB plan before it gets throttled. 3.5% in 12 minutes! I do have some apps running on the back that are normal of any smartphone (Gmail, Google Reader, the weather and calendar app of HTC Sense). It is really easy to use up 2GB.
I am someone who uses my phone, correction, smartphone for school, work, and fun. While on my car I use Rhapsody or Napster to stream music. I also like to use Google Listen to listen podcast while driving. I love to watch YouTube videos or play flash games. These activities can lead me to pass the cap in a week very easily!

    yes!

    • Scott

That’s GB per month not Gbits but all good, that’s really not a lot of data. What you figure is thwy are talking about most people not using any streaming service or downloading much as what they think regular users are. Really wished they’d come right out and say it rather than mincing words.

Good price if u truly never go over 2gb. Let me see if I understand this, with theoretical speeds of 21 mbps, just how long can u download before hitting 2gb? I’ll let u do the math. How about applications like Pandora, Skype video chat, YouTube, netflix which is rumored to be coming soon?
What’s the point of having 4G with throttle after 2 or 5gb???

Sounds to me like their network can’t handle heavy data usage otherwise they would give customers a choice.

No thank you, ill stick to Verizon’s LTE UNLIMITED PLAN WITH REAL SPEEDS, NOT THEORETICAL SPEEDS. I pay a little more but I GET ALOT MORE..

    • Dice90

Nice try but you are thinking of Megbytes per second and that isn’t even fecable in today’s world. It is done in Megabits per second which is a fraction of a megabyte.

      • Anonymous

Thank you, I honestly didn’t know the difference between bits and bytes, ill look it up. In the meantime, let me ask you, at the rate of 21 megabits per second, how long would it take to download 2 GB?

      • Dice90

Look at it like this. One byte is 8 bits. Meaning a byte is 8 characters. So 1 megabit per second would mean it would take 8 seconds to download 1 megabyte theoretically. So to download 2 gb you would have multiply 8 by 2048 meaning it would take approximately 16384 seconds to download 2gb at 1 mbps translating to about 4.5 hours of constant downloading at that rate. I use 1 megabit per second because that seems to be about the speed I get at my house or a little faster sometimes with AT&T. I enjoy using my phone for everything because the fastest internet connection I can get at my house is about 800 kbps.

      • Anonymous

I edited it, thanks for the info. 8 bits in a byte…

      • Anonymous

At the theoretical speeds of 21 mbps, it would take 13 minutes rounding up. Tmobile advertisesnew theoretical speeds of 42 mbps. Verizon’s 4G coverage offers real speeds of 21 to 30 mbps right now and 5-12 on a fully loaded network. I don’t know if your in Verizon’s 4G coverage or where they are launching over 150 more markets this yr but its worth looking into. Just saying, & at the very least I learned something.

Although I’m not thrilled with the idea of throttling after 2GB, the price points on those plans are very compelling. Watch out, Sprint. T-Mobile is gaining on you!

Where is this $59.99 plan, can’t find it anywhere

    • Anonymous

I keep getting an error whenever I try to change my plan.

      • http://profiles.google.com/faithnomore182 Seventh Son

Same here, keep getting an error on the website when changing the plan.
I called in and asked for it and the lady said there was not Even More Plus plan, just and Even More plan at 79.99. Wtf?

      • Anonymous

Well their press release disagrees with her. This is annoying.

      • http://profiles.google.com/faithnomore182 Seventh Son

Ok I just called in and got a different rep. She was clueless as well but when I kept insisting, she ultimately “found” the plan. Mine is changed effective immediately with no impact my contract, $59.99 per month for unlimited everything (speeds throttled after 2GB).
She also looked up what the throttled speeds mean and found that they would be throttled at 50kbps, which is kind of a bummer but I rarely go over 2GB so we’ll have to see how it plays out.

In case this helps anyone, the actual name of the plan and details are as follows:

Even More Plus™ Unlimited Talk + Unlimited Text + Unlimited Data
        Unlimited Whenever Minutes
        Unlimited Weekend Minutes
        Unlimited Weeknight Minutes
        Premium Handset Protection Bundle
        Visual Voice Mail
        4G Web – Unlimited

    Bad new guys,

I just called 2 T-Mobile stores and they have confirmed that T-Mobile has decided NOT to launch the 59.99 Even More Plus plan contract free. I called CS and they also confirmed this. I thought it might be worth it for you guys to check in to it and report it. I personally feel this is a bit unfair as they released a press statement saying it was coming and I was looking forward to catching a break on my monthly bill. I checked the T-Mobile website also and under their news section they only talk about the 79.99 plan on contract. No mention at all about the 59.99 plan. Real bummer. I hope this info help!

    • http://profiles.google.com/faithnomore182 Seventh Son

Fortunately, this is not true after all. The reps just don’t have all the info yet. See my post a couple above this one for details, but the name of the plan is “Even More Plus™ Unlimited Talk + Unlimited Text + Unlimited Data” and it’s $59.99 a month. Hope this helps.

      • Xm_jdm

I’ve seen the memo. I went into the store to pay my bill and figured I would ask again. The memo couldn’t have been any more clear. It isn’t being launched. If you look at the tmobile website you’ll also see that under news they only make mention of the 79.99 plan.

So half your customers use 1gb while half use MORE and it is growing rapidly…so you make a soft cap of…2gb? Right above where MANY of your consumers are?

These ISP’s are amazing in how much they screw consumers.

    wow
