Verizon Wireless HTC DROID Incredible 2 to offer global roaming

mobile

The information floodgates on Verizon Wireless’ upcoming HTC DROID Incredible 2 have been lifted. Last week several leaked images of the phone surfaced, and on Monday even more details emerged. According to images picked up by Android Central, the DROID Incredible 2 will support global roaming for “more than 220 voice and 200 data services countries,” — a feature the original DROID Incredible lacked. As we suspected, it appears the device will remain very similar to the Incredible S HTC announced during Mobile World Congress. It sports 3G mobile hotspot connectivity, a 1.3 front-facing camera, an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera, and a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. While the European version runs Android 2.2 (Froyo), earlier rumors have suggested that Verizon’s will be loaded with Android 2.3 (Gingerbread). Verizon Wireless has yet to confirm the DROID Incredible 2, but these leaks suggest a launch could be imminent. Hit the jump for another image describing some of the phone’s specs.

    No LTE?

  • Bert

Why bother with this thing if it is not LTE????

Do you really need someone to answer that for you?

I would be first in line if this had LTE…LTE is such a battery hog…leading to problems…need battery tech to catch up or carry an extra battery everywhere.

You make a lot of sense but you don’t make a lot of sense.

That’s two bad news issues coming from Verizon. Getting rid of the 1 year contract and no LTE on the Incredible 2. Love my current incredible. However, I wanted to have the option of LTE. No doubt my next phone will have LTE with it being forthcoming in my area sometime this year.

This would be a winner in my book if only it were 4G. I’d also love a Tegra2 processor but that can be overlooked. Guess I’ll be waiting a few more months for another round of phones to come out

You don’t need tegra2. Dual-core ARM chips are (will soon be) a dime a dozen…nothing special with tegra2…they just market harder than others. CEO is full of hot air.

Same old processor means no Netflix for this one either. Hell the Thunderbold won’t be getting Netflix either.

Yeah, the Thunderbolt will be getting Netflix. It runs the same processor as the LG Revolution, which has been confirmed as a target device for Netflix (and was demonstrated streaming videos nonetheless).

I’ll be taking a good look at this phone when it launches
No LTE – many of us outside major metro areas couldnt care less – its gonna be years before LTE is available in my area.

With the crappy international roaming rates verizon provides, there is no point in getting a global device. It’s going to cost you an arm and a leg to pay the data bill on an android device when you’re roaming at $20/MB in Asia.

      My thoughts exactly!

    • Cer

Of course there’s a point in getting a global device. You put in a foreign SIM card, turn off cellular data, and use wifi. For most, that’s good enough. If you’re a frequent business traveler into GSM areas, you shouldn’t be on Verizon in the first place.

  • Garrythewolf

Dah, I already tried Verizon’s “unlimited” international data + voice, …..after two weeks in Europe and light use of my BB – my bill easy went up to $800…
no thanks, and – FU, VzV :(

do these verizon global phones support Canadian sim cards and if so, u just pop the card in then turn off the cdma signal and go gsm and pay the Canadian wireless company right?

    • Anonymous

      Yep, just get it unlocked.

This is the first REAL news here today. Global capabilities: ‘WINNING!’ I find it hard to believe, though, no LTE?? What’s the deal in the “fine print”: **The 3G Mobile Hotspot requires a $20/20GB Monthly Plan??

Why have LTE in a global phone? There is practicaly no LTE anywhere other than North America, and even then, the current LTE coverage in the US is small compared to 3G coverage and the rollout to cover the majority of the US will not be complete for a few years still. There is also the TB to compete with. There is no way VZW is gonna intro a second LTE device so close to the TB that would cannibalize TB sales.
