T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless to intro new unlimited plans

mobile

According to leaked internal documents, T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless may soon offer new unlimited voice/text/web plans. One image, obtained by TmoNews, suggests that T-Mobile will quietly launch a new “Truly Unlimited Data + Talk + Text” option on April 13th that will retail for $79.99 per month. T-Mobile will supposedly not cap data for this plan, but will instead reduce data throughput speeds (throttle) after a user surpasses 2GB in a single billing cycle. Another image leaked by Droid-Life suggests that Verizon Wireless is also gearing up to release a new unlimited plan for just $50 per month. It will supposedly include unlimited mobile to mobile calling, text, and web for customers opting for service without a contract. We’re thinking this could be limited to feature phones only, given Verizon’s choice to call it “unlimited web” instead of “unlimited data” — “unlimited data” is terminology Verizon typically uses when referring to smartphones. Neither carrier has officially announced the new plans, however. Hit the jump for more images.

it says $79.99 on one screenshot for T-MO, then $59.99 for the other one… are they different?

    • Tmo dude

79 for contact and 59 for non

      • Anonymous

Why is it more on contract? Shouldn’t the contract lock-in reward you with a better rate?

      • Anonymous

T-Mobile’s non-contract means NO HANDSET SUBSIDY and you pay full price for the handset. It can be unlocked after a certain period for world travel if you do that. This is similar to the rest of the world.

Only thing this is meant to do is put pressure on Sprint. If the government doesn’t step in and stop the AT&T-T-Mobile merger/acquisition, in the very near future (3-5YEARS) I predict we will only have 2 carriers to choose from and will paying out of the arse to have either one as a service provider (Cell).

    • Onyx

Yes, so what? It’s not a monopoly and nor are you required to have a cell phone in the first place. You do have the freedoms to go back to the old way of communication.

      • Hmm

It’s funny how the neoconservatives are now finding that there’s nothing wrong with reduced competition.

      • kromik

That’s what they all say right before the overnight price increases with no competitive alternatives. Reduced competition is good for us all right? Just keep your head down and shut up, we the gov’t know what’s best! Who needs choice?!?

If you really think these plans will be available for iphone customers or the like, you really are dreaming.

      • Maxxabby

Actually, what he knows — but is not saying because he thought folks here where more enlightened? — is that if you walk away from ATT/TMO or Verizon, someone else will see an opportunity to fill a new demand for cheaper communications and will no doubt belly up to the bar. Too much money in apy for entrepreneurs to merely yield to the likes of ATT/TMO or Verizon, guys.

Actually your confusing neo-cons with traditional conservatives. Neo-Cons are far more pro economic intervention and government regulation. Traditional conservatism and libertarianism are not.

Neo-Cons differ from traditional conservatives in having much more interventionist in foreign policy, more pro free trade, and being willing to accept more government control over the economy.

  • virginia

yeah which is it, $79 or $59????

    • http://twitter.com/bugabuga Max Smolev

I bet it’s $59 for “Even More Plus” (no contract, no phone subsidy) and $79 for “Even More” (contract + cheap phone). T-Mobile always charges more for the privilege of being locked into a contract :) As long as you want a cheap phone :)

      • Anonymous

Thats the sad thing about T-Mobile going away, actually having a place to take your unlocked phone and not get raped.

  • http://www.droiddoes.com/ Norm

So with tmobile 4G means 3G and unlimited data means 2GB data?

    • http://twitter.com/robsleezy Rob Sleezy

No Dumbass, it means its truly unlimited, but after 2GB they are going to throttle the data speeds so you aren’t sitting there abusing the data connection.

    • Wirelessmodz

i dont get throttled till 5gb rt now how is this better ? am i high am i missing something ?

      • Footbal55

wondering the same thing, never changing my contract with tmobile, grandfathered into unlimited text and data for $43/month

      • serpentor

It’s not, unless you talk bunches on the phone. For the same 79 you can get 500 mins talk, unlimited txt, and 5GB throttled unlimited data.

Siiiii …… and, as they would say in Mejico, waaaay ….

  • Epage83

The T-MO plan is correct. $79.99 is the price for the individual plan. It launches on the 13th.

I feel sorry for you When I’m getting here in Israel truly unlimited data plan. after 30GB the network speed goes down from 1.5Mbps to 150Kbps so I’m using it as my main internet connection for both my laptop and my smartphone (and for VoIP calls too so actually I’m paying for all my communication needs one payment). and the fun part is that it cost me only 150 NIS (about 50$) per month and no contract at all.

Well I wish it will happen in your country soon :)

    • duo-poly

wish it would happen here too. but the reality is our country is massive and network costs are significantly higher than in other countries. also not to mention we have faux competition to keep our profits and prices up.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000972372961 Samuel Azran

well just today too more companies join to the cellular competition so now we have in Israel 5 networks for about 6 Milion customers so there is really competition. I think if the FCC in US or some other governmental organization will start some regulation on the cellular networks then you’ll see how much they can reduce the prices and still make a fortune.

      • Ray

That would be a decent argument except for the fact there are many countries with less population density and far better and cheaper cellular service. The issue in the US is lousy management, lack of standards and, within any given technology, little to no competition. Add to that pretty dumb consumers agreeing to sign multi-year annuities for the sake of making a phone call and you have an excellent framework for lousy expensive service.

    • Jon

      Me too!

  • Anonymous

yea i dont know why people are so excited about verizon saying $50 bucks for talk, text and web, when it says unlimited web. That is probably not for the top of the line smartphones its probably for the cheap or free phones.

    • Tmcneill04

it already said that in the article…..

  • Anonymous

Is there any info on how many anytime minutes these plans will include? It says unlimited mobile to mobile, but doesn’t have any info on how many anytime minutes there are for other calls. Fill me in if anyone knows.

  • http://profiles.google.com/march99 Dino Sun

“could be limited to feature phones only” ……So that means i cant use the phone i currently have – Droid Incredible and i have to buy a lame ass phone.

First, you take away the 1 yr contract which i love. Now, this !!!!

Thanks for giving it to me Verizon !!!! up in the $$S !!!

    • Drew

Here’s a shocker. Verizon doesn’t give a shit about ANY of it’s customers. Dan Mead and Rene Obermann can both take a flying f*ck off of the Burj Khalifa (formerly Burj Dubai). It’s fairly clear that Obermann (Deutsche Telekom CEO) doesn’t really care about T-Mobile USA as DT has already launched rural LTE service in Germany and will deploy commercially this summer. Now I know why T-Mo USA was LAST to the 3G party, due in part to DT being stingy with their money. Leaving them behind like a red-headed step-child…

  • Jmartssj4

Verizon 50 dollar plan is clearly a pre paid plan look right next to it for the 1.99 per day… Is bgr really for real right now ?

  • CMC

2 gigs huh? Seems like they’re getting geared up to be taken over by the Death Star. So eliminating a competitor loses people 3 gigs worth of data. TMO before ATT = 5 gigs then throttle — After — 2 gigs. Again, HTF is “good” for consumers???

    • Anonymous

      current plan

      $99.99 – Unl min + txt + web (5GB cap)

      new plan

      $79.99 – Unl min + txt + web (2GB cap)

      pick your poison

  • Karl

What value is T-mobile’s new plan to consumers when they are bought by AT&T. AT&T will use their monopoly in the GSM network to squeeze consumers within 6 months of the deal being signed.

AT&T will get approval from for the acquisition from the FCC and trades commission by providing substantial funds to Nobama’s re-election campaign.

    • Mabby

—and don’t forget the free phone and internet service that ATT will be required to provide under– terms of FCC/Justice department approval– to the “less fortunate” people who are also most likely to vote democrat.

Never trust printed material from Verizon aka nickel and dimers.

    Unlimited web*
    Unlimited Calling**
    Unlimited texting***
    Unlimited weekends & nights ****

*Not including data, tethering, mobile hotspot
**To verizon subscriber, feature phone only devices.
    ***to other verizon phones
****evening starts at 11pm ends at 5am

Now if the tmo includes tethering, that’s not a bad deal…

  • PeteS

I am a Verizon iPhone customer and I called them yesterday to up my minutes, since my wife can’t not talk on the phone. The unlimited plan they switched me to is 50 per phone plan with the 29.99 data plan in addition. I end up paying about the same as I did with the 1400 shared minute plan I had as I do now with unlimited.
