Adobe intros three iPad apps, brings photoshop functionality to tablets [video]

Software

Adobe on Monday unveiled the latest version of its Creative Suite software, version 5.5, which includes a new SDK for building smartphone and tablet applications that can interact with its famous Photoshop desktop software. To showcase some of the possibilities brought about by its new SDK, Adobe also introduced three new apps for Apple’s iPad. Adobe Eazel is a finger painting app with enhanced controls and nifty multitouch support, and creations can be stored locally or beamed over Wi-Fi to Photoshop CS5. Adobe Nav allows users to move menus and other controls off of their PC displays and over to the iPad. The app also allows users to view Photoshop documents on their tablet displays. Finally, Adobe Color Lava turns the iPad into a modern color mixing palette that pushes color creations directly to Photoshop CS5. Eazel, Nav and Color Lava will become available some time next month for between $1.99 and $4.99 pending Apple’s approval, of course. In the meantime, hit the break for a video of Adobe’s new apps in action.

This looks very cool. I’m not sure how much I would use this app outside of playing around with it but it’s nice to see developers design for the iPad’s strengths instead of just trying to force the functionality of a desktop application onto a tablet app. The thing with each finger bringing up a different tool looks really neat. I wonder if it works as well in real life as it seems to in the video.

Bias much? The first tablet in the video is the Xoom and this was also announced for the BlackBerry PlayBook. But of course, this is BGR and they only put iPad in the title…..

You sound like the 12 year old kid who cries because his brother got it first.

      • All4Choice

He’s right, thoughh. BGR is a BIG Apple booster at the expense of other platforms. Can’t call him out for pointing out the fact.

BGR reports tech news. There are far more interesting news articles going on in the apple front than Android. There are tons of notable software releases for ios that happen regularly. nothing really notable comes out for android frequently. The last exciting one was pocket legends. I rock an Inspire, and this thing isn’t as interesting on the software front. So yeah I can see why apple gets more attention. Much more frequent and noteworthy news on that side.

But the news isn’t regarding the ipad at all…. It’s about Adobe. About abobe lauching the photoshop touch sdk for mobile and tablet interface, specifically. The ipad factored in with the demonstration of the example apps. But android and blackberry will also be supported. Also in the press release was mention of the new 35 dollar a month photoshop subscription, as opposed to paying 800 to own it. Also not in this article.

Maybe they’re just reflecting the reality that 250 iPads have been sold for every 1 Xoom.

U are totally right however if you don’t like it, u don’t have to read it or even visit the blog, this is the beauty of choice, I think that u just wanna cry over something insignificant as this.

…and he chose to read and comment. If you don’t like his comment, you could have chosen to ignore it. Isn’t freedom ironic?

Wow, the article is about “three apps announced for the iPad”. Why get pissed? instead say “I was glad to see an Android Tablet in the video, which means it should becoming to that platform as well” Instead its the same crybaby stuff.

I’m sure when Adobe makes the official announcement for the other platforms, BGR will write about it as well.

I think you guys are just mad that Adobe is making anything for Apple products. Seriously, just let it go LOL. Get over it already and just learn to appreciate good tech for any platform that can come from anywhere.

From what I read in the official press release, it is true that the Adobe Photoshop Touch SDK will be available on iOS, Android and Blackberry Playbook.

However, the official companion apps from Adobe is iPad only. They just tell people that their cross-platform SDK is possible to develop apps like that on the other two platforms, but no sign of Android / PlayBook version of these official apps.

      So, Adobe bias first?

Oh, finger paint and crayons. How appropriate!

If they could make a stylus that wasn’t like drawing with a gummy bear then this might be really excellent. I have to admit, I’m more of a fan of sketchbook pro for natural input.

Gummy bear… I love that… Typical of apple products!

You can’t have fully-fledged photo editing software functionality on a tablet. I call shenanigans And don’t give me the whole “it’s enough for the average consumer” garabage. I’m not the average consumer.

Well then this isn’t for you then. However being a Droid fanboy that even rivals the loyalness of Goofan or myself I’m sure you have a Xoom and realize it’s far more capable.

    Hmm…But still no Flash?

I can live without flash. I cannot however live without pressure sensitivity.

Could they include that in the sylus? Then transfer that information via Bluetooth the the iPad?
