Atari’s ‘Greatest Hits’ delivers arcade experience on iOS devices

Gaming

Stop dusting off your old Atari 2600 and get to the iTunes App Store, stat. Atari Interactive on Thursday announced the release of its Greatest Hits application for iOS devices including the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. The download is free and includes PONG, but there are also a number of in-app purchases available including many classic Atari Arcade and Atari 2600 games. The app offers original cabinet and box art for each game, and there are 25 different packs of four games that cost $0.99 a piece — or you can buy the entire collection for $14.99. Titles include hits like Asteroid, Missile Command, Air-Sea Battle with Bluetooth multiplayer support, Breakout with Bluetooth multiplayer, Battlezone, and more. Atari’s Greatest Hits is compatible with devices running iOS 3.0 or later. We know what we’re doing for the rest of the night.

LMAO at this old crap. I’ll stick with Angry Birds on my Droid. Modern gaming FTW. iOS is getting left behind in the stone age.

are you the new Norm? Yes, Angry Birds is about as good as it gets on the “Droid”.

Back to reality. If I can get Tempest on my iPhone (or Android Captivate for that matter) I would be so happy. The “old crap” still beats the pants off of most of the “new crap” found on iOS or Android.

C’mon guy. I love Angry Birds on my Android smartphone but the ability to play Centipede and relive my 8-bit youth via the iPad. *droooool* Games like Angry Birds, which are amazing, wouldn’t even exist if Missile Command didn’t eat kids quarters back in the day.

Old school gaming > Modern Gaming.

On that note, why don’t we have Robotron 2084 yet? And yes Llamatron is awesome.

Yes, yes, yes. Robotron would be perfect now with the ability to do dual sticks on these touch screens especially with the iPad since the screen is large enough to set down on a table or lap. I think it was Williams or Midway that owned that title so we might have to wait a while for that one.

Apparently Minotron was actually done by the Robotron guy. So I guess that’s as close as we’re getting.

Ahh….. Robotron — my alltime favorite – the only game I could work up a sweat playing (arcade that is).

  • Rock Me Like A Hurricane

Nice! They have to make the screen bigger. Lets hope Iphone 5 does have a bigger screen.

Android’s one saving grace. Emulation. It keeps the dream alive. The old stuff that is. Genesis, Super Nintendo, Mame. CPS1, CPS2 arcade boards, Neo Geo. The good old days. Metal Slug all the way.
