Apple responsible for BlackBerry PlayBook delays, report claims

Tablets

Research In Motion will finally launch its anticipated BlackBerry PlayBook tablet on April 19th, though most had initially expected it to reach consumers well before that date. According to a new report from DigiTimes, Apple may have been behind the rumored delays. The report states that RIM’s touch panel supplier, Foxlink, was so inundated with display orders from Apple that it wasn’t able to meet RIM’s manufacturing needs on time. “Sources from touch screen panel makers also pointed out that PlayBook shipments were postponed for about a month from the original schedule due to a delay in software testing as well as shortage of touch panels because Apple already booked up most of the available capacity,” the report claims. RIM’s late launch could have a significant impact on PlayBook sales, though several analysts believe the BlackBerry tablet will still sell quite well in its debut year.

Nobody says it’s apple fault. Apple is responsible.

No, the panel supplier is responsible. They didn’t anticipate demand adequately and thus did not have enough production capacity.

Which is not just as easy as hitting a switch. These are investments in manufacturing facilities that cost in the hundreds of millions of dollars. Unless you know the demand exists, spending that type of money isn’t always prudent.

You know what would be a more interesting story? One that examines the track record of DigiTimes rumors.

why… WHY didn’t i get into the touch panel business?

Clearly Apple is responsible for your oversight.

    • Pavel Bure

Well…the touch panel business may be not available unless you have have a billion lying around but, there’s always the “TOUCH BUSINESS” ;)

    It’s Bush’s fault.

The poor sales figures of the Xoom are largely fabricated by Apple so this is likely yet another move by Steve Jobs to hurt competion.

    • http://twitter.com/rravindras Ryan

Do you have real sales figures in your tiny green antennae?

  • Mongo

As a Mac user, I’m getting to the point where I’m going to quit buying Apple stuff. They are getting like Microsoft was in the 1980′s where they limit competition, get too big, and destroy competitors.
Those of us who buy Apple products should not complain when Apple has a monopoly on everything and we end up paying what they determine. I wonder if there are anti-trust implications to all this.

    • http://www.droiddoes.com/ Norm

Wow, you just proved that Apple users really are in fact retarded. How is it Apples fault that they ordered more parts before RIM did? That is RIMS fault for playing catch up and using the same parts supplier. I like to poke like heartedly at iFans like you, but now I can say such comments in complete confidence. Thank you.

Normally you and goofan annoy the hell out of me. I don’t really care for MACs but I do have an iPhone and AppleTV2 (jailbroken of course), but finally a post from you that isn’t exactly trolling.

The release date might as well be pushed back indefinitely since the Playbook is going to be RIM’s biggest failure. Between the iPad, Xoom, Galaxy Tab, and upcoming TouchPad from HP, my opinion is that RIM is going to be left in the dust. These four offerings should cover what the mainstream public wants in a tablet computer. I am eagerly awaiting the sales figures from the Playbook to see exactly how they fair.

I can’t take this post seriously. I just can’t. Especially since Xoom and Galaxy Tab are in that list. I do, however, think the Touchpad will be a good tablet, but it’s coming out pretty late and will need some serious marketing.

How is Apple responsible for this? Sounds like RIM didn’t write their contracts well enough, doesn’t sound like Apple was responsible at all.

My guess is RIM shouldn’t be too concerned with inability to meet demand.

Totally Apples fault, nevermind the fact RIM is famous for delayed releases.

  • Anonymous

Corroborates well with the article claiming that apple was paying a 300 – 400 % premium for iPad 2 displays.

    • Anonymous

Even if so, money talks bs walks. RIM could have matched the price.

  • Anonymous

Apple is also responsible for world hunger and worldwide crisis. It’s cause Apples dollars are worth more than Rims dollars.

  • Max

Your stupid Playbook won’t sell more than 1,000 the first month. Period.

It’s apple’s fault that other are coming out with tablet computer’s
