Samsung’s Galaxy S II getting processor upgrade, report suggests

mobile

A recent report indicates that the unreleased Samsung Galaxy S II is getting a processor upgrade. Blog GSMArena states that the company will upgrade the 1 GHz dual-core Cortex-A9 processor to run at a blistering 1.2GHz. The site points to a slip on Samsung’s Estonian Facebook page — which mentioned the upgrade — and cites an “internal source” as its information sources. Samsung has yet to announce a specific release date for its next-generation flagship handset.

How much you want to bet that during testing they realized the Tegra 2 is faster than their Exoyo at 1 GHz, or whatever it’s called.

They have tested it…the Tegra 2 does not compare to the “Orian.”

I believe they are quite close to one another in performance.

So processor upgrades are news now? Doesn’t every single piece of electronics get upgraded over time?

Yeah but not a lot of manufacturers reiterate. They must really like this form factor.
It’s if a iphone 4 copulated with an Android phone to produce a 4 inch baby.

But if you watched the UI demoes, you’d see why the dual core is necessary. The single core demo showed a lot of lag.

I’ve noticed that Android does not run very well on single core processors.

The S2 was announced to have a dual core processor running at 1GHz. That clock speed has changed to 1.2GHz, not merely that the successor is getting better specs than the original S. As you yourself pointed out almost all devices are upgraded overtime, but this is a change for a device that has yet to be released.

This is one of the best looking Android phones out there. I just have to figure out if the wait is worth it, or if I should just grab a Bionic.

Wow, that’s high praise. It’s like saying someone is the world’s tallest midget.

Have you seen the world’s tallest midget?! HE’S HUGE!!

I wish they would upgrade the GPS chip too. The chip they use for the Galaxy series is terrible. What use is a fast loading map if it renders a location a mile away from where I’m actually at?

I am skipping Atrix for this. Reason? No Gingerbread, Motoblur etc. HTC Desire HD looks so sexy, if only it had some dual core muscle!
