Intel pegs T-Mobile G2X for April 15th release

mobile

Blog Android Central has been slipped a scintillating sliver of information suggesting that T-Mobile’s G2X handset will launch on April 15th. The full-touchscreen, NVIDIA Tegra 2 device was announced back in March, but its release date has been somewhat of a mystery. The G2X will run an unmodified version of Android 2.2, sport a 4-inch display, 8 megapixel rear-facing camera, HDMI-out, and a host of other high-end features. The handset will also contain a 21Mbps HSPA+ radio. If you live in the States, your tax returns aren’t due until the 18th this year, so there will be no excuses for you not to pick up a G2X come the 15th. Until then, check out our two hands-on posts from CTIA.

Sweeet. I think I’m gonna upgrade to this from my BlackBerry 9700.

If I didn’t already have a G2 I’d be looking hard at this, looks like a great phone. With HTC joining Motorola in implementing draconian security measures I would not be surprised to see the ROM community move to LG and their new phones & tablets.

I am surprised that it isn’t running 2.3 though.

Exactly. OEMs ruin Android with stupid mistakes like this. Especially since it’s stock, what was the problem with getting 2.3.3 on it????

T-Mobile and LG decided not to keep the LG skin on this version of the phone so they could push gingerbread within a few weeks of release. Granted it should come with gingerbread, but I don’t mind waiting a few weeks for gingerbread.

Well, as long as its sooner than 2 months. HTC pushed Froyo to my old Evo
well within that timeframe, but I switched to the Epic and it go Froyo just
a few weeks ago, and a few Euro Galaxy S models will get it soon… o_O.
Until we a little more consistency there I’m getting the Nexus S 4G and
staying stock, for a long while.

Nice!! Yeah dude leave the BB that looks amazing. Plus BBM may be coming to all Platforms!

Hmmmmm, time to upgrade from my N1? Then again, I did just spend $600 on the Xoom (WiFi), so my savings account might thank me for holding on another few months…

You know…after seeing all these nice new phones with real UIs I may be switching to an Android-based phone in the near future. I’m getting terribly tired of Apple’s simplistic UI and notification system.

Hush yo’ mouth, no you did’ent!!

The iPhone is closed and Droid is open and free. Easy decision.

        *android

You know the saying “there is strength in numbers”? Well, that’s true here as well. The only thing keeping me stuck to the iPhone is the fact that so many people have it. There are a lot more apps and support than what is available for Android. And I like the tight integration with iTunes – it’s going to be hard to switch out! I’m just hoping Apple does something new with the new iPhone and iOS so I won’t have to go through the troubles of switching platforms.

the notification system is so retarded that i want to smash my iphone sometimes. supposedly, it’s being fixed in ios 5.

  • Petey

G2X or iPhone 5… Waiting for the iPhone 5 to release and will be comparing specs… I really want the LG though but heard back in the days where LG didn’t really make good GSM phones (reception was an issue i believe).

You might be waiting til October. By then quad cores could be on the horizon.

That’s a long time. You can get the Samsung in a little more than a week and have to wait until fall for the iPhone (allegedly, on both counts).

  • D-train

G2X or wait it out for the Samsung Galaxy II?

    • Mikex915

same Problem here. Our wait for HTC pyramid? Rather have a 4.3 screen. What to do. what to do

  • Bowchawowow

    I can’t wait. I been holding back from getting mytouch4g samsung galaxy s 4g.

  • Generatione

Why are these things still running 2.2?

    • http://twitter.com/JKabat JKabat

I have a theory that they are working on getting 2.4 ready due to the fact that it supports dual-core processors. Might just skip 2.3. Just a theory. I have no evidence whatsoever.

because 2.3 OS is not done yet,

Nothing I’ve ever read says this phone will support 21mbps. IntoMobile says 14.4mbps and phone arena says 10.2mbps.

    Still, I want this phone.

  • Sprint_Employee

Whoa this is the beast I want… hurry up April 15th!!!

I hear T-Mobile will be making more of their devices compatible with 850/1900 MHz UMTS either in preparation for the AT&T acquisition or a pending nationwide roaming agreement with them.

This device will be merger proof no doubt (assuming us geeks even keep this phone that long which I doubt). lol I know I switch phones every 6 months

I hope T-Mobile still has that 1500 AT promo plan when this launches with unlimited 4G web

    • MA

You didn’t hear?? They’re coming out with a $79 UNLIMITED EVERYTHING plan!!! Can’t beat that…. 4G web included

      • Anonymous

        Source please.

      • Johnny Wishbone

Data is capped at 2GB, after that you go down to EDGE

Its not going to have free hotspot. Its just the the G2. Where there is a plan for it. Fortunately for me, I’m rooted it is free. Which is the case for pretty much all rooted phones.

  • bernie

Save your money or be a fool to waste your money again when the merge does take place as your phone replacement a MUST! from AT&T……..aka (Evil Empire)
