FCC outs new Motorola iDEN phone

A new Motorola iDEN phone has just been approved by the Federal Communications Commission. The phone is referred to by two names in FCC documents — the i475 and the i235 — and offers a candybar form factor with a full QWERTY keyboard. As expected, it features push-to-talk support and offers Bluetooth connectivity, 2.5mm headphone jack, camera, speakerphone, and an FM radio. Motorola has yet to officially announce the phone.

    This wouldn’t make much since if this is lanching on Sprint considering their wanting to transition all iDEN users by 2013 (i think?) OFF the network.

      Yup. The iDen network will be shut down by mid-2013. Sprint’s target is for the beginning of 2013 but there is always a delay in these kind of things. This phone is destined to become a paperweight.

    We only have one iDEN network in the U.S.

      Not true. SouthernLINC operates here in Georgia as well as Alabama and Florida. It is an iDEN network and has no plans to shut down. So this phone could easily be destined for Nextel AND SouthernLINC.

    It’s probably an interim replacement for the Motorola Clutch which has been curiously absent from the Sprint site for the last few days. I hope it has the faux Android operating system a la the i886 but my guess is that it wont.
